    Superboy #11 Review

    Superboy #11 Review

    Overview:

Superboy and Bunker team up in New York City

    The Good:

The story is pretty good, Superboy is up to his usual doesn’t-understand-society shenanigans and it brings a very humorous aspect to the character that is noticeably absent from other representations I have read and it is fun. Bunker is alright, he does a lot of exposition and puts a spin on it but nothing really sticks out about him.

Scott Lobdell is credited with the plot here and the story overall is pretty fun, not groundbreaking for either character but a good read. Tom DeFalco is credited with the script and for the most part it is good but there are a few points where it seems weird. So overall the story winds up good with a bit of fun in there

R.B. Silva’s art is alright I suppose. The backgrounds, bodies and bad guy are really good and the color Richard and Tanya Horie really set the tone for the story, which is light and fun and the colors really help bring it out.

You know that tattoo that Superboy had in the promotional images for the New 52? He gets it here and the reason makes sense.

    The Bad:

The issue draws a lot from past issue and old Teen Titan issues so that might be a pain for some newer readers. The dialogue by DeFalco really hits some stumbling blocks. It seems forced and unnatural, I saw this when I read Legion Lost from the Culling crossover. While the story was good, some of the dialogue was so off it messed with the flow of the story.

Silva’s art is alright, except for the faces. None of them ever look normal, most of it is in the eyebrows and I personally don’t like it. Also Bunker’s eyebrows are drawn on the outside of his mask which is weird.

You know that tattoo that Superboy had in the promotional images for the New 52? He gets it here and the reason kind of doesn’t make sense.

    Verdict:

A good issue that hits a few bumps with the dialogue and the art but is enjoyable for fan. Tom DeFalco has been writing the script for this issue and numbers 6 to 9 and compared to when Lobdell writes it, it is not the same. The art is okay, not my favorite though. This is not the most new reader friendly issue either.

THE GOOD: The art is really good. Instead of seeing an issue filled with Superboy in suit, we get to see him in normal clothes and R.B. Silva draws that fairly good. I also really liked the background detail in this issue. I really like the facial expressions in this issue and I think that they always convey a lot of emotion and humor. The story is a little lacking but fairly good. I really like seeing Bunker trying to teach Superboy about how to like things and that he needs to find things that...

I'm starrting to remember why I wasn't so concerned when I started to fall behind in Superboy... For starters, visually, it's not the best. R.B. Silva's artwork is generally good in action, but his facial expressions tend to be REALLY off, ESPECIALLY for Bunker. The key problem to this issue though, is apathy. Nobody seems to be too concerned to make any deal out of anything. Superboy is pretty chillax about his insane living quarters, and Bunker seems to have little true concern about Superboy s...
