Dead out in the open like this
There have been in the history of cinema a few real time movies, where the action unfolds at the exact same pace as the person watching it experiences it. In terms of comics though, I am not sure if such an approach has ever been attempted before, or at least one which happened in such a way appreciably. Anyway assuming that it takes around 10 minutes to read a comic (though probably a little less) then this occurs almost exclusively in real time as the Squad has ten minutes to stop the prison riot and get the bombs in their heads shut off. It is an interesting concept but ultimately one which doesn't work so well. The action is there, but it is presented sort of helter-skelter so the overall tension never builds. There is a lot more in the part after the prison riot, but by that point it kind of feels like too little too late. I am still not sure at all what to make of this title. Seems so mediocre sometimes, and at others has flashes of something better.
