Dog Will Hunt
Issue #3 features the squad trying to maintain a low profile while protecting the package they recovered in the previous installment. An enjoyable issue, but it doesn't do much to raise the bar back to the quality of issue #1.
The Good
1) This series could very well be titled Deadshot, since he's really the center of this team. That's not a bad thing if you like Deadshot at all.
2) I feel like Harley was fleshed out a little more in this issue. Her interactions with Deadshot highlight the fact that she's drawn towards dangerous sociopaths. Character development!
3) King Shark eats a guy. I like how they use King Shark in this series. He makes every panel he's in just work. They use him sparingly enough that it feels like it's a real treat to see him instead of some gag that will just get old. I hope they continue to use him this way.
4) El Diablo continues to be alright. I hope they don't get rid of him anytime soon, as he provides a nice balance to Deadshot's ruthlessness.
The Bad
1) I think some of the scenes with Harley are a little over the top. I mean, really, we get that she's sexy, we don't need to see her in a ridiculous Daisy Duke outfit.
2) The resolution to the conflict between the squad and Mad Dog is unbelievable and borderline ridiculous. I would have rather just seen them fight it out.
3) Maybe I don't know enough about the characters introduced at the end of the issue, but I'm not really excited about seeing them in the next one.
The Verdict
This was a fine issue, but a step in the wrong direction compared to the previous two where the squad was really up against it. I just didn't buy the peril presented to the squad here. Still, I'm enjoying the series thus far and will continue to pick it up.
