Strange Tales started out as a horror/mystery book, then began introducing giant monsters such as Fin Fang Foom and Orrgo around issue #70. Beginning with issue #101 the Human Torch became the star and faced villains such as the Wizard, Plantman, and Paste-Pot-Pete who made their debuts.
Dr. Strange began co-starring with his debut in issue #110, facing off against villains like Nightmare, Baron Mordo, and Dormammu who all saw their first appearances in this series. With issue #135, Nick Fury returned, splitting the book with Dr. Strange, as an agent of Shield and fought against the Yellow Claw as well as new villains making their first appearances such as AIM, Hydra, including some of the best stories of the Silver Age by Jim Steranko.
The series changed it's name into Doctor Strange Vol.1 with issue 169 while the Nick Fury stories moved to a new title, Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD. Strangely enough, a few years later, the series Strange Tales was continued with another issue 169 in Strange Tales.
