Storm #1 Review: Oh. My. GOD!
"When I was just a girl, I called myself Goddess, and I lived in the sky. Sometimes I wonder why I ever left. I'm a Mutant with the power to control the weather. Here's where I belong, every nerve connected with the wind, the clouds, the vapor." "When I was a girl, the sky called me home. Should be interesting to see what calls me next."
I'm trying to think of better words to describe this comic than "Oh. My. GOD!" The problem is, those exact words are exactly what I've been saying since I finished reading this book. Other than one character who I found rather grating, and that was point so that we could enjoy the comeuppance for them later, I found NOTHING wrong with this book. NOTHING! The writing is amazing. Greg Pak captures Ororo perfectly, as well as her place in the world. There's no filler, nothing to drag the plot down, and anyone that bought this book knows enough about Storm to get the general understanding of who she is, and the simple and to the point narration fills in the blanks without bogging us down. Everyone and everything that shows up in this comic serves a purpose to the overarching plot. Seriously, Pixie is in this book just to say one line, and it doesn't bog the book down AT ALL. The artwork is perfect. Victor Ibanez and Ruth Redmond get Storm's look, the way her powers look, and just the look of the world around her exactly right. And by the way, I've usually been more of a fan of the long, flowing hair Storm used to have as opposed to the mohawk. One issue of this comic, and seeing her drawn like this, I could never go back. It just FITS...Well, except maybe in the movies. I don't wanna see Halle Barry with a mohawk. And it's funny, I'm actually one of the people that likes Barry as Storm in the movies.
So, does this earn a five star rating? Without question. Anyone who loves this character, likes this character, or has ANY kind of fondness whatsoever for this character, owes it to themselves to pick this book up. End of story.
...What are you still doing here? GO BUY IT, NOW! lol
