So finally getting around to doing that extra one. i figured this one i finally get to do one i want. and this time i do. so i decided to pick something around my genre. This one i picked up back in August which this comic escaped my grasp before. i never had time to read it. For those not familiar with the stargate series. it was based on a movie / book that came out in the early 90's which was based on a book called stargate back before i could read so i won;t get into it. this comic is following the adventures of Dr.Daniel Jackson Historical geek extraordinaire. Lock your geek seats in the up right position and lets engage this.

    The Story

This story is a single piece story that focuses on the character Daniel Jackson of SG-1 team. so for those fans of the series already get into the thick of things as a botched diplomacy mission have the group to bail early as they come under fire. already i can tell from the first 3 pages that this comic or even this series is going to be character based story. which is good. but if the story is not going to be any good to go with this character type of story then the execution will fail and the comic will bomb.

So this story we learn about a shard that one of the members of stargate command finds something with ancient writing on it. being the knowledgable historian he is he deduced it came from Baghdad museum of antiquities. of course they have the idea im going to go down there alone without any armed guards to try to track down the rest of the pieces. the story does not do alot of justice to the characters themselves in that part.

Moving along to the end of this i did not find that this comic did well in trying to capture what made stargate great for 10 seasons. i mean its hard to pull off when we don't have most of the team. i mean we are missing T'ealc and Samantha carter. there is no clear time in which this story takes place but they suggest after the last two movies that came out. I have to give the story a 3 out of 5. i mean it could be better but the character dialogue could keep pulling you through.

Oh man was i not a fan of the art in this one. before people comment. "Troy you nazi bugger, why are you complaining about art, when you barely are able to pull off a proper stick figure" . To which i can agree. but honestly when people have seen the series and know what the characters look like. the only close resemblence we get is one page with close up details of the faces of two characters and vala's outfits, and if thats a problem i say put them in the chamber and turn on the gas.

There were many questionable art designs. as well as many lack of designs that i can take into account. one being of which why was their no armed military guards in most of those streets of Baghdad. or why was there no proper alarm system in a museum of antiquities? i mean common sense stuff like that.

Overall this art seemed rushed and i really do not want to harp on it... to much. so due to lack of detail and many questionable designs by the team there. i would have to give the art and overall 2 out of 5. and this is the first time i had to give such a low score for art. i mean i can tolerate art pretty well. but there seems to be a huge lack of interest into character design.

    Overall thoughts

The best art you will see in this comic. and its mostly Vala.

The story is bland at best. but the character interactions are pretty close to what it might have been in the series. there is alot of work that needs to be done by dynamite in order to make this series a better read for the people. like making the story more plausible for a character to go off alone.

Art was a huge lack of common sense in characters designs. i would have prefered that some of these guys actually look at the pictures of the characters or get an artist who is better at recreating characters from real life. i mean. its hard for me to get into this and believe its daniel jackson when he looks nothing like daniel jackson. more detail could be given into the background and work on the colors to keep the readers eye on the pages to push them through.

Overall i give this comic a 2.5. I would not reccommend this to a fan of stargate. but those out there who do not know much of the series outside the basic premise in which the series was built on then i say knock yourself out and read it if you can find some one brave enough to pick it up. If you got a nice comic store owner i would get a chance to read a couple of pages there to see if its worth a read. but this book is not for the hardcore fan base. i only hope it gets better.

Well there you go i given you your extra piece which i said i was going to work on now i can pack my things without worry. ill get back to you guys on thursday with a brand new review. and hope you guys have a good week. Good Journey.
