Poll Will Maul finally die in Rebels Season 3 ? (42 votes)

    Yup, he will 48%
    No, he will not 24%
    Not sure 29%

3 x 16 “Legacy of Mandalore” – 2/18/2017 Hoping to get her family to help the rebels, Sabine returns home with Kanan and Ezra, and finds herself embroiled in her family’s power struggle for Mandalore.

3 x 17 “Through Imperial Eyes” – 2/25/2017 Fearing that the Empire will soon discover the identity of a rebel spy, the Rebels launch a plan to rescue him before his capture.

3 × 18 “Secret Cargo” – 3/04/2017 When a routine refueling mission goes wrong, the Ghost crew find themselves transporting an important rebel leader across the galaxy, pursued by Imperial warships.

3 × 19 “Double Agent Droid” – 3/11/2017 Chopper and AP-5 team up to infiltrate an Imperial station to steal needed codes, but an Imperial specialist turns the droids against the crew to cause chaos.

3 × 20 “Twin Suns” – 3/18/2017 Reacting to a vision of Maul, Ezra defies Hera and Kanan to travel to a remote planet in hopes of stopping the former Sith lord from carrying out his plans.

3 × 21 – “Zero Hour – Part One” – 3/25/2017 In final preparations for their attack on Lothal, Phoenix Squadron’s plans are disrupted when Grand Admiral Thrawn discovers their location.

3 × 22 “Zero HOUR Part Two” – 3/25/2017 Trapped on Atollon with the rebel base under siege, Hera and Kanan fight to keep the squadron alive, as Ezra attempts to rally help from an unexpected source.

According to the episodes descriptions it looks like Ezra goes to Tatooine, and interferes with Maul vs. Kenobi duel,

First off, we know that Maul planted a beacon to Atollon before, where the Rebel base exists, and then we know that it activates when Maul dies,

So the question is how Thrawn figures out the Atollon base so quickly after the Kenobi vs. Maul duel in Tatooine ?

It seems like somehow Maul dies there and his beacon sends message to the Empire.

Also I don't think they could explain Maul's survival after he finds out Kenobi's location, it's just too risky for Kenobi and Luke.

This is just a theory. What do you guys think ?

I'm betting that he will or it'll be a presumed death. In all honesty I'm hoping Obi-Wan finally ends this cancer thats been plagueing his life.

I doubt that he will die. This old veteran will fail to kill or even seriously injure Kenobi but there's no force in the galaxy to finally kill him off - the plot is too strong with him.

He should have died long ago. They might pull an Ahsoka with him at the final where it looks like he dies but you see no body.

Rumor is Rosario Dawson will play Ahsoka in one of the movies and with the actor who played Maul still being young enough to act could set up my perfect nightmare of trying to ignore these characters are still around.

No, he isn't. Maul is going to live throughout the OT and seduce Ezra to the dark side making him his apprentice.

This theory makes sense, but would they really kill Maul off in an episode that isn't even the season finale? It could be possible Maul gets angry at Ezra's interference and gives away the bases position. Either way is possible.

I like Maul, but he's been alive too long. He's outlived Ventress, Dooku, Grievous, all the Jedi besides Anakin, Obi, and Yoda... he needs to go.

Wouldn't be against it and by this point I just don't see a reason not to. The freaking Empire is established and ruling the galaxy man, we don't need Maul still running around.

It would be cool if Maul lived long enough to watch Sidious get thrown down that reactor shaft... But I agree with a ton of people he'll probably walk off into some sunset and die peacefully of old age.

Though I'd love for him to be the first Sith Ghost or would we call it a Sith Wraith?

This is my theory: Does Maul die? No. Does he lose? Yes. He attacks Kenobi, having the upper hand for most of the duel, and he actually injures the elder Jedi Master badly, giving a canon reason for his slow speed in A New Hope. But due to plot armor and PIS, Kenobi cheap-shots Maul. Kenobi gets angry and he tortures Maul brutally, slicing him across the face, but keeping him awake "long enough so that he can feel every cut." But as Kenobi is about to aim at Maul's neck and stab his enemy, Maul says: "If you strike me down, Kenobi, this beacon will tell the Empire of the Rebellion's location." Kenobi reluctantly deactivates saber, lifting Maul in a Force Grip and thrashing him away from the scene. Ezra arrives, and is happy to see that Kenobi is OK. Kenobi warns Ezra about the danger Maul poses and that the Rebels should leave Atollon. Ezra immediately realizes Kenobi is talking about the beacon and he rushes to Atollon. But treachery is the way of the Dark Side. Kenobi committed a fatal mistake in leaving Maul alive. Maul activated the beacon anyway, and Atollon was under siege. Kenobi, badly injured, went to check on Luke, because Maul could have some plan to kill Luke as revenge. But no. The Rebels fight bravely on Atollon, but Thrawn has enough of it, and the Empire, by bombardments of just by Darth Vader's presence, wipe out most of the Rebels, the only survivors being Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, Leia, and a few other Rebel leaders who escaped the brutal massacre. Ezra, Kanan, Sabine, Zeb, Fenn Rau and most Mandalorians die, but Hera and Chopper make a narrow escape, the Empire making of them an example to other foolish gang of terrorists who dared to speak against the Emperor. But the galaxy is forgetting one thing: Maul. This is not the end for Maul. It will NEVER be the end for Lord Maul. THE MAUL. Not as Maul. No. Darth Maul is dead. Now there is one being in Darth Maul's place.................. Supreme. Leader. Snoke.

@thesithmaster: Hmmmm... well first, I don't think Kenobi would torture Maul. Even if he did kill his crush, Ben would unleash his anger during the duel.

And also... Snoke is probably just a new character.

    @Necromancer76:

Old Ben Kenobi just does not have the skill, rage amped or not, to defeat Rebels Darth Maul in a fight without cheap-shotting. Snoke being a new character does not make that much sense to me as Snoke is the big mastermind of the new trilogy, and it needs to be in some way connected to the other trilogies. Snoke being a random Sith Lord or dark Sider would not make that much sense, and it would be a gigantic letdown for me, to be honest. I think, with this new duel confirmed, that it is more than plausible that Maul becomes Snoke. It's basically a guarantee that Maul loses. F*ck skill. Good guys need to win. Disney Logic. By Disney Logic even Beru Lars or C-3PO could kill Darth Maul. Just because they need to be in the original trilogy. Maul does not appear at all in the original trilogy.

I'd like for him to survive, that's really his most impressive Force feat really, surviving no matter what happened to his body. But I agree that it's hard to explain how he survives while knowing of Kenobi's location. Does he perhaps join Ahsoka in being neither Jedo nor Sith?

@thesithmaster: I don't deny Ben cheap-shotting. He killed Grievous with a cheap shot. I just don't think he will torture Maul. And also, both Abrams and Serkis said he's a new character to the universe. Whether this means he's from the expanded universe or he's a new character all together, he's probably not Maul.

Just my opinion. I was hoping for Plagueis for a while but I kind of got shut down.

I voted he'll die, but there is a chance that he'll live based on the fact that the new Darth Maul comic series will supposedly show us his history, which should present him in a sympathetic manner. Then again, they did this with Ventress and then killed her.

The Disney XD website nonchalantly mentions "old wounds", which I see as a reference to the noncanon comic in which Kenobi duels Maul on Tatooine. Owen kills Maul.

I'm sticking with he dies. I hope so. His character should have been so amazingly awesome; Instead, they turned him into a powerful guy who could not see past his desire for revenge.

Yes he will, just like Ahsoka died so will he. Even the biggest fool can see that Disney only used these old, The Clone Wars characters as a commercial trick, in order to attract old, TCW fans to their show. Now that Dave Filloni isn't in charge of Rebels anymore, and now that Rebels have built up a stable fan-base ( of 12 y/o's though) you can expect to see all prequel characters getting killed soon, one by one. Even Dave himself admitted that this show's main protagonists are the Ghost crew, not the old characters. And we all know where the ''side-characters'' end up. Disney is looking to erase prequels from the roots of its existence. At least Lucas was always original, and heights that he touched with prequels, and the universe that he created will never be reached again with Disney's cheap, rip-off goofy movies.

Check out this video. Interviewed Star Wars fans, asked about their first impressions after watching the movie. Nearly everyone loved it, just like the ''Force Awakens''. Only after few years have passed, once people watched the movies over, and over again at home, they realised that the movies aren't as good as they believed in the first place. Same goes for Force Awakens now, people are slowly but surely realising that it was a cheap rip-off movie, and it was a shit.

There's that good old Serbian say ''Where all the Turks go, there goes little Muhammed as well.''. If everyone's gonna hate it, i'm gonna hate it as well, if everyone's gonna love it, i'm gonna love it as well. While in fact, prequels were great movies and Force Awakens is just pathetic.

I'd love to see that happen too but given that it's taking place in the Star Wars Rebels cartoon, I doubt it will happen. Ezra will probably interfere with the duel between Maul and Kenobi and Kenobi will probably get a cheap shot on Maul to win. I'm hoping for better but I expect this to be the outcome.

So will I. A canon Kenobi vs Maul duel should be very exciting, and I was hyped when I first saw it in the Rebels Season 3 teaser. Now I've thought about it, I realise how poorly it could turn out.

That's an interesting theory, which appears to be quite accurate.

However, bumping Maul off in this manner seems very lackluster to me, especially after what they have done to bring him back. The episode isn't even the season's finale. Given the rivalry that exists between the two, they would try to make it as grand as possible, which I don't see many indications of( which isn't saying much since they Disney is quite secretive about things like this, but still, from the looks of it, one episode dedicated to it, is not what I am looking for). It is also possible that they have a grand duel, and then in the middle of it, Maul simply reveals the location after Ezra intervenes, and Obi Wan goes off to help them, leaving the duel inconclusive.

I would also question Maul's motives to fight Obi Wan. Is it still revenge? Why does Obi Wan say that he has come to the wrong place when Maul arrives? Is he looking for something from Obi Wan? Maul may be looking for Luke, and fights him when he refuses, but it is highly unlikely he even knows of Luke's existence. What are his exact motives here? Does he really think he can still beat the Emperor?

Admittedly I haven't been following Rebels a lot.

I mean, it depends on how Filoni had his head on on the day he wrote it. I mean Filoni could just in his head go Ben=Vader> Maul and that could be it.

Whatever happens I just want it to be a clean fight. If it's an Old Wounds thing where Maul tries to get to Luke or whatever. Just give us a clean fight please.

I'm not hoping for anything because it's Filoni, but I would like to see Ezra and/or Kanan interfere in Maul and Obi-Wan's battle and give Obi-Wan an opportunity to cheap shot Maul out of the other possibilities because it would be reminiscent of how Maul was initially killed by Obi-Wan in TPM, and since they want Maul's story to end at Obi-Wan to bring it full circle with how original death in TPM - they might as well repeat the Obi-Wan cheap shotting Maul thing. But I still wouldn't like it at all because he dies in a battle with Obi-Wan again which is repetitive, uninteresting and dull. Using Maul in a completely different and new direction would have been a lot better in my opinion.

@lordofthelight: Yep. Maul still wants revenge on Obi-Wan and ever since he realised Obi-Wan was still alive at the beginning of this Season he tried to exploit any opportunities to identify Obi-Wan's location so that he'd know where Obi-Wan lived.

The last thing needed here is a cheap-shot. After all that has happened, Ben cheap-shotting Maul will be quite anticlimactic for this. None of their duels are completely clean and reflect them in a true one on one. We don't need another cheap-shot after one that has already happened, it will be far too lackluster considering their rivalry and the hype that has surrounded this duel. Also, a cheap-shot essentially means that no decisive victor will emerge, so I can understand your point of view since you are a Maul fan :).

Why does he still want revenge? I was under the impression that he already took it in TCW. Also, none of that explains why Ben would say that he has come to the wrong place. He probably wants something from Ben. Witwer has also implied that he may have moved on from all that. If he would want revenge against someone, it would be against Sidious, but even if he has become a lot more powerful, he still can't do much against the Empire on his own, if anything at all. He may want Obi Wan to help him in his quest to bring down the empire, and Ben may refuse, since Luke is the only one who has the potential to defeat Sidious in the galaxy.

I'm not a Maul fan, I used to think his look was cool but I dislike him. I was just saying the cheap shot could be included because they're throwing him in the same position again and Star Wars has some history of connected things together to make it full circle IIRC.

I think he wants revenge because he's got nothing else to do, I remember Witwer saying they were going to take him in a different direction - but looking at how Rebels is using Maul, it seems too familiar, after all, Sam is only a voice actor who only might be getting small amounts of information, and even if he knew everything, he probably said it to mislead us because it has been proven that in popular franchises and shows that the Creators/Producers/Directors/Voice Actors/Writers will say things to make the fans speculate and not even think about what they're really doing.

It would be a lot better if it was an actual fight though. Considering the hype around this, it will be quite a waste if they don't show a grand battle after all. They might reveal, for example, that Maul has force lightning, something most fans have wanted of him.

All things can be traced back to the root, i.e. popularity and profit. Rebels has a fan base of young people. The directors/creators want to orient things in such a manner that there will still be an interest in the show, after all this, and the appeal will either stay constant or increase. By including PT characters in it, they obviously hope to attract more fans, slightly older fans. At the same time, they want to ensure that it will not get too dark or violent( keeping in line with Disney traditions) and retain their original fan base. If at the end of all of this, and what has happened in TCW, Maul still wants revenge, then it will be a bit of a downer. They'll just be rehashing the same thing again and again, making it boring, flat and uninteresting. There must be a good reason why Ben and Tatooine are involved in this. A reason which isn't as simple as just revenge which was used earlier, but something relatively simple all the same.

Also, Maul says that he looks for hope, not revenge. And Ben says that he has come to the wrong place. That either means that he knows of Luke's existence which is almost too unlikely or that he wants something else from Ben, cooperation of sorts. Maybe his final will is to oppose the empire. We know that he intends to do that, due to the events that happened on Malachor. All things considered, it fits more into the picture considering all the pieces I have put above, rather than just petty revenge. I mean, it would be quite dull if that was indeed the case.

Anyways, that's over-analyzation. We'll eventually find out in a matter of weeks.

That would be cool because we haven't seen anything like that.

Yeah, I think it's kind of repetitive and boring, but it could be made interested by adding something unique to it instead of reusing the "Maul hunting Obi-Wan" storyline which we already saw.

Maul's statement of hope might mean that he's hoping Obi-Wan is alive so that he can complete his revenge plan, and Ben's statement of Maul being in the wrong place is probably a warning that this time they fight, Maul won't come out alive. I don't have any idea of Maul knows about Luke because I only watched a few clips and read news articles that summarised the Episodes.

I guess we'll have to wait.

%41 was right it seems, by the way I also vote for Maul's death, I was hoping for a proper duel though...
