The new Marvel comic series, JOURNEY TO STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS - SHATTERED EMPIRE, debuted today and it's going to be the series that connects Return of the Jedi to this December's highly anticipated The Force Awakens.

While the new series moves the main story forward of the moments after the Rebels beat the Empire and after the Ewoks ate some Stormtroopers, the first issue of the comic, written by Greg Rucka, featuring art by Marco Checchetto, and colored by Andres Mossa, did reveal something that could possibly be a connection to one of the characters in The Force Awakens.

Warning: Spoilers to the issue below.

The issue follows Shara Bey, a pilot during the rebel uprising and she heads back to Endor to meet up her husband, as seen below.

Her husband is Kes Dameron. The two work for completely different sections of the Rebel Alliance, but these two are very much in love. After a night together, after defeating the Empire, they are called away from each other once again.

What's interesting about all of this is that in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there's a new character who also shares a last name with one of these two Rebel pilots: Poe Dameron.

Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac and pictured above, is a Rebel pilot himself, from what we've seen in the trailers and promo pictures for the upcoming film. Could Poe be the child of these two characters? It doesn't happen everyday that you come across someone with the same last name that isn't related in the Star Wars Universe, especially when SHATTERED EMPIRES is supposed to set-up The Force Awakens.

There's no confirmation yet that Poe is the child of Kes and Shara, but it's safe to assume these two characters have something to do with Poe. What do you think?

I'm not too thrilled with this whole revamp franchise. I like the expanded universe books that followed after return of the jedi. It was far more interesting. Plus I want to see the Solo kids, the cloned emperor and grand admiral thrawn.

Books about post-ROTJ Star Wars literally started coming out last Friday. How can you say that the old EU is far more interesting yet?
