A lot of people have been speculating over the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker in Episode VII, but another question is why? Could it be that he is too powerful? If so, how powerful, how powerful would be be? As powerful as he was in the EU?
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
Movie » Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens released on December 18, 2015.
The seventh installment in the Star Wars saga, set 30 years after Star Wars, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
How powerful will Luke Skywalker be?
Since EU Luke can apparently tango with Superman, no, I don't see him being even close to that.
I'm expecting Luke to basically be the don whenever he shows up, he'll decimate Kylo and the other Knights of Ren.

See now that's just ugh...
incorrect. Mind you I know just about everything about Grandmaster Luke and no way is he tangoing with Clark on his best day.
@chiraq_windy: I said apparently, I have no clue if he can or not, I never really got into the EU and the only EU stuff I've read post Jedi is the Thrawne trilogy and a few comics. There are entire battles dedicated to it.
@godofthunder4: I am hoping they don't power him up to much. I prefer the limited powers of the Jedi in the movies rather than some of the EU stories.
@darthdeadpool: Peace to u Master Windu, u will be missed
I'm thinking he'll at least be as powerful as Obi-Wan, maybe even more powerful sense the Skywalker line has such a deep connection to the force. I get the feeling there going to do a lot of paralleling between Luke and Obi-Wan in these new films.

they were pretty darn powerful in the new prequels. they were almost unstoppable except by another jedi.

That's not true. Order 66 killed thousands of Jedi. That was carried out by the clone troopers.
Emperor Palpatine in the EU created wormholes that destroyed ships!!
Not anywhere as powerful as his EU version, that's for sure.
Generations: Governance
The original stories these sequels are based on present the adventures of Luke and Leia's kids in an expanding Jedi universe that is struggling to understand the nature of governance in the face of an enduring eerie evil presence.
In this light, Luke Skywalker should be a figurehead and a minister of sorts rather than an over-bearing representative of the Jedi.
We should see more the nifty contributions of the next generation of Jedi, with C-3PO and Han Solo serving as guidance counselors.
