Darth Vader Kicking Butt...Will It Work As A Comic?

What did Darth Vader do shortly after Revenge of the Sith? He kicked a lot of butt and killed more people.

    The Good

I'm a huge Star Wars and Darth Vader fan. We've had so many Star Wars comics that it's not often I get excited over another miniseries. As soon as I saw the cover image, I knew I had to read this comic book as soon as I could. We've seen Darth Vader as the cool and deadly agent of Emperor Palpatine. We've seen him as the young and brash Anakin Skywalker. What we haven't really seen is his days in between. Here we get a chance to see Darth Vader shortly after his rebirth. This isn't the kid-friendly version of Anakin we're currently seeing on the Clone Wars cartoon. This is a Vader that will kill and issue orders to kill without a second thought.

    The Bad

My common complaint about sci-fi comics is they tend to have too much color. Seeing lasers and the different lighting is almost a distraction for me when reading. Star Wars (the original trilogy) wasn't an overly colorful world. This is something I just deal with when reading sci-fi comics. I'm a fan of Rick Leonardi's but there were a couple moments where Vader looked a little too bulkly. It's no surprise that I would be nit-picking over the way a Star Wars character is drawn.

    The Verdict

I'm always happy to get a good Star Wars comic. This is a Darth Vader we haven't really seen from in between his time as Anakin and the Vader from the original trilogy. The story and art conveys Vader's sense of loss as he coldly kills and orders others to be killed. Seeing Vader use the Force to accomplish his deeds is great to see. As with most sci-fi comics, I always have a problem with them coming across as too colorful. I'm not sure where this series will go or how the story will depict Vader but I cannot wait to see what happens in the next issue.
