    Ordered to escort the Medusan ambassador Kollos to a conference on trade routes. Kollos, an energy being whose appearance drives humans to madness arrives in a box, escorted by an engineer named Marvick and a telepath named Jones.

    Soon jealousies among the guests, and between the guests and the crew threaten the ship's survival.

Creator Gene Roddenberry was replaced as showrunner, the series' budget was slashed, the network demanded more Spock based episodes, and the show was moved into the Friday night "death" slot.
