Following the success of the Marvel Star Wars Weekly in the U.K., Marvel UK Editor-in-Chief Dez Skinn considered whether a comic featuring Battlestar Galactica would sell well enough in the UK to support an ongoing title. Unimpressed by the available material, he considered running the reprints of Marvel USA's Battlestar Galactica as a back-up strip in Star Wars Weekly, but when Lucasfilm began a legal battle with the creators of Battlestar Galactica, claiming it was a rip off of their work, Dez's initial plan was deemed impolitic. Instead, to bolster the Battlestar Galactica strip it was packed with Micronauts under the Star Heroes title, and a special issue was published to test the viability of an ongoing series. Its success saw the launch of the Star Heroes Pocket Book.
