It was apparent even at a young age that Andrew Hamish Grave was a mutant. His father was abusive to him and his mother, blaming her for having given birth to a mutant. Andrew's father eventually killed his wife by forcing her to drink paint stripper, but told young Andrew that she'd run away. His father continued to abuse him over the years, even forcing him to eat garbage, causing Andrew to grow up with an intense hatred of both himself and humans in general. He eventually discovered his mutant power to control people through pheromones, and took the name Spoor after he was recruited by Fabian Cortez into the Acolytes.
Spoor was created by Scott Lobdell and John Romita, Jr in 1993 and first appeared in Uncanny X-Men # 300.
Major Story Arcs
As a member of the Acolytes, Spoor took part in an attack on a hospital and killed many human patients. When Excalibur arrived to stop the Acolytes, Spoor tried to coerce Nightcrawler into killing him, but he managed to resist. As it turned out, Spoor hated himself just as much as he hated humans. Deep down, he even felt that killing humans was wrong and that he deserved to be killed for what he'd done.
Spoor would remain a prisoner in Excalibur's custody for some time on Muir Island. While there, Dr. Rory Campbell sought to cure Spoor of his sociopathic nature. Campbell subjected Spoor to various psychological therapy sessions within a room equipped with aggression-tracking lasers, with Campbell himself taking drugs to inhibit Spoor's ability to influence him. Campbell's underlying animosity of mutants got the better of him however, and Spoor was able to goad the doctor into attacking him, causing a laser to react and sever one of Campbell's legs. Spoor would remain in custody afterwards for some time, both on Muir Island and later the main land. He eventually escaped however and fled to Genosha, currently ruled by Magneto. Spoor however later died during a Sentinel attack on the island.
Spoor was one of the many dead mutants resurrected by Eli Bard during Necrosha.
Powers & Abilities
Spoor's primary mutation was ability to produce mood-altering pheromones that allowed him to heighten the aggression of others around him. He could direct his victims' aggression, but would often leave it uncontrolled, secretly hoping that his victims would turn on him as well. His physical mutations cause his entire body to be covered in hair and take on a more bestial nature, bringing with it some degree of animal-like enhanced abilities.
