A Disappointing Series
The Story:
The real Jessica Drew(Spider-Woman) was captured and replaced by a Skrull. During the Secret Invasion the real Jessica Drew came back but things weren't how they were before she was captured. Now when everyone looks at her they see the Skrull Queen. Unsure what she should do with her life now, she accepts an offer from Abigail Brand to be an agent of S.W.O.R.D. and hunt down the Skrulls that have caused her so much pain.
My Thoughts:
Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev team up once again for this Spider-Woman series that only ended up lasting for seven issues. The main theme of the story is pretty one-dimensional. While revenge can be a powerful emotion, it just wasn't executed to satisfaction by Bendis here. There's no real depth or emotion at all. The writing is somewhat bland to be frank. I mean yes it would make sense for Spider-Woman to want to kill the Skrulls for what happened to her and that could be a good idea if expanded properly. However it just wasn't the case here. Even with all the action that just couldn't save this series from the below-average writing.

I wasn't a big fan of the art style mostly due to the coloring. I hate not being able to tell what I'm looking at all the time. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell different characters apart as well which can be frustrating. While the art grew on me a little while reading this, I definitely wouldn't like seeing this art style all the time while reading comics.
It's unfortunate that Spider-Woman can't get a decent series that lasts. This series was cut down short only seven issues into it. It's not an essential read by any means and is probably only going to please die-hard Spider-Woman fans. If there was stronger writing this could have been an excellent series.
