Spider-woman #2: The Deep End
If you've ever tried to reading the origin of Jessica Drew, you're easily going to need a bottle of tylenol after wards. Try a spider evolved into a woman by the High Evolutionary later revised into a British SHIELD double agent. Bendis loves to pick comic storyline messes to try and carve a niche' but it's interesting that he's chosen to ignore Jessica Drew's supporting cast role as an investigator in the Wolverine volume 1 title that takes place in Mandripoor.
Building off the Secret Invasion, Jessica Drew now feels betrayed and impotent as a spy/investigator. She's out of a job looking for purpose as the skrulls used her, ruined her reputation, and left her isolated. S.W.O.R.D. comes knocking and uses her rage to their purposes, that is to hunt Skrulls down.
Her instructions lead her to Mandripoor where she learns that other factions than S.W.O.R.D. are very interested in her.
Classic Bendis/Maleev that reminds me of Alias. This is a dark, grainy depressing world where the main character's paranoia can either benefit or betray at a moment's notice.
