It's So Bad, Even The Characters In The Story Are Jumping Ship.

    THE BASICS

The conclusion to this chapter in the life of Spidey and Cat. We learn about Hardy's past and her motivations for becoming a thief.

    MY COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF

    • I liked the ending. It's one of those conclusions that's easy enough to see coming, but that you feel accomplished for figuring out. It's a reveal that's rewarding to see when you've put all the pieces together 2 pages before.

FEEL THE STING OF MY DISCONTENT!

    • There apparently wasn't enough backstory in the last issue and this one starts out right away with sepia tinted panels. I understand that it serves a purpose, and at least none of it is completely pointless, but it really just dragged the pace of this story down. Which is pretty bad considering that it was barely crawling along before.

    • Unfortunately, the problem of pacing makes it really hard to keep enthusiasm high for the story, which is a shame considering how close to the end the reader will be at this point. Less than 15 pages from the finish line and the ball has not only been dropped, but it's been deflated as well.

    WAIT, WHAT?

What is it with heroes just up and disappearing from the story? First, there's Nightcrawler, who, despite playing a major role in issue 5, is completely absent in this addition. Did no one think to ask him for help to take on the bad guy? Having a teleporter probably would have helped. Secondly, where did Daredevil go? One minute he's up on the bridge with the rest of the cast, ready to confront the villain, then the next he's jumping off of it, never to be heard of again. The fight isn't even over at that point. He's supposedly leaving to get medical help for Spider-Man, but Spidey's up and fighting again by the next page and no mention of help from DD is ever made.

WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE

This series has been bouncing all over the place in terms of quality, from a bad start to a promising middle to a dull end. Unfortunately, even taking into consideration the few bright spots, the sum is less than its parts. I hate to say it, but I'm glad I'm done with it now.

    Overall series rating: 1.5/5.0
