Spider-Man Life Story#2 (if you're an MJ fan, you owe it to yourself to read this one)

Peter talks to Flash at his grave, Gwen gives him a pep talk. Harry visits his father in prison where Norman tells him to look into the Gemini Project as it is out of control. Harry goes to the disco clubs and gets stoned. We learn he is engaged to MJ. Peter arrives at the Club and gets into an argument with a drunken MJ, who reveals she knows he is Spider-Man. Later, a haggard Peter winds up arguing with Reed Richards over sharing advanced technology with the public and we learn Sue left Reed for Namor. Reed slaps him.

Harry attacks Miles Warren's lab as the Goblin and terrorises him and Gwen. Peter arrives and battles the Goblin. Harry triggers a series of explosions which reveal a vat of clones that include Norman. Harry is shocked to find two contain clones of Gwen and Peter. He demands to know why Miles has created the other two. Peter gets everyone out of the building as it catches fire, but Gwen tells Peter to go back and rescue the clones. Peter salvages his own clone, but Warren tells him the Gwen in the tanks is actually the real one, and that he had switched her with the other Gwen. Peter heads back into the burning building but it's too late, the original Gwen is dead.

A year later, Gwen and Peter, now calling himself Ben, are preparing to leave town. MJ is looking after Peter. Gwen's clone has changed her name to Heather. They bid MJ farewell and leave. MJ goes back indoors to comfort a depressed Peter. Peter thinks he has nothing, MJ tells him that isn't true at all and they embrace.

Hopefully Life Story 3 begins with Peter and MJ having got together and married.

Re read Life Story, Zdarsky really is killing it.

Best short understandable non convoluted use of clones ever.

That ending was bittersweet and good at the same time.

Spider-Man Life Story today was pitch-perfect! I only wish we had an artist like Alex Ross on it, but Zdarsky is killing it with the writing.

Fully agreed. Mark Bagley's art is a joy however.

Alex Ross doing anything but covers is rare nowadays. Its not like the times he drew the entirety of Kingdom Come and Marvels.

This might just be the best use of the Clone Saga ever. Non of the insane convolution.

The 5 Best Spider-Man Moments from the 1980s

https://www.marvel.com/articles/comics/the-5-best-spider-man-moments-from-the-1980s

THE WEDDING!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL (1964) #21

We can’t talk about ‘80s-era Spider-Man and not mention his momentous wedding to Mary Jane Watson. Plagued by doubts, Peter worried that marrying MJ would put her in mortal peril. In fact, he sits atop the Brooklyn Bridge, staring at a picture of Gwen Stacy and remembering how she died because he was Spider-Man. Fortunately, he decided to go through with the wedding in the end and even got to honeymoon in Paris.

-

SLINGING WITH THE SYMBIOTE

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #300

Peter Parker’s iconic black Spidey suit first showed up in 1984’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #252, but Venom didn’t appear on the scene until two years later in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #300. After he was disgraced as a journalist, Eddie Brock bonded with the alien symbiote that sensed his anger and yearning for revenge. The two fought against one another, but Peter got the upper hand by shooting Brock with a special blaster. This didn’t drive the symbiote away, which led Parker to conclude that Brock and the alien were one and that killing the symbiote would kill Eddie. Unable to take another human life, Spidey decided to have them contained in a special tube by the Fantastic Four.

-

HOPPED UP ON HOBGOBLIN

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #238

While the Green Goblin (Norman Osborn) was killed by one of his own devices shortly after learning Spider-Man’s true identity, his legacy lived on with the Hobgoblin. After being chased into the sewers under an Osborn warehouse by Spidey, a bank robber stumbles upon the Goblin’s old hideout, complete with all kinds of destructive gliders and gadgets. He shows the place to a mysterious colleague who appreciated Osborn’s creations, but ridiculed him for a lack of vision and determination. Killing the robber who showed him the secret lair and donning a new mask, this individual called themselves “Hobgoblin.”

-

R.I.P. SPIDER-MAN

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #293

When readers think of the villain Kraven, they almost always think of "Kraven’s Last Hunt," the infamous storyline in which the savage hunter set out to kill Spider-Man once and for all. Not only did he almost succeed on that front, he also put on a black Spidey suit to try and prove that he was better than him in every way.

-

HERE LIES…

PETER PARKER, THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN (1976) #142

Tombstone, another famous Spider-Man villain, also arrived on the scene in the 1980s. Once known as Lonnie Lincoln, this baddie was born an albino and suffered much ridicule from his fellow students in high school. After graduating, however, he filed his teeth down to sharpened points, learned how to fight, and groomed a street reputation for himself. After a fight with Spider-Man at the Osborn Chemical plant, Tombstone gained superhuman abilities after he was doused in a chemical known as Diox-3. Over the years, Tombstone has allied himself with the likes of Kingpin, Hammerhead, and the Sinister Twelve.

I really have a problem with what he says about Spidey having to be a "f*ck up" all the time otherwise he stops being Spider-Man. As someone who's enjoyed MC2, Renew Your Vows, and the newspaper strip for a decade plus, there's plenty of good stories you can tell with a happy and complete Peter.

Love Chip. But, I Feel Like He Wrote The Complete Opposite Of What He Said About Spider-Man. I Mean, He's Got A Successful Job And Seems To Be On The Verge Of Doing That. Sure, He Worked For Reed Richards After He Quitted. But, He Still Has Octavious As His Partner.....That Is Until He Could Possibly Meet His Fate In The 90s. I Think What He's Saying That The Character Should Have Some Drama And Hard Stuff Which Wouldn't Necessarily Be The Case As He Doesn't Always Need To Have The Hardest Stuff In His Life To Be Spider-Man Nor A Family Man. I Mean, The Guy Really Deserves His Happiness.

How GWEN STACY Was Saved (& Married PETER) In MARVEL's Mexican AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Title

https://www.newsarama.com/44857-how-gwen-stacy-was-saved-in-marvel-s-mexican-amazing-spider-man-title.html

Snippets from the article

So how did they convince Marvel to allow them to bring back Gwen Stacy? It was all, literally, a dream.

"In reality, we never decided to change course as such," Durán told Newsarama. "It was just an idea that all the stories born in Mexico were Peter’s dreams."

The series ended in the mid-1970s over a paper shortage in the country, according to Durán. La Prensa opted to focus its limited resources towards its newspaper, and other projects such as the comic book were put on hiatus.

@animehunter Just feels like a big nothing burger is all. It was a dream sequence in one issue, and everything else is just extra adventures with Gwen as his girlfriend, not his wife. It should not be attention grabbing headlines outside of the novelty of being unique stories published in another country. This is an attempt at squeezing the last fleeting vestiges of relevancy out of something that a niche contingent of comic book fans were already aware existed for years.

Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, 21st April 2019 – Donny Cates Calls It Ultimate Buffy

Posted by Rich Johnston April 21, 2019 0 Comments

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the “Wednesday Warriors”, those who can’t wait till the weekend to get this week’s comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

Batman tops the chart. Of course. Numbers may be a little softer heading through Knightmares but it remains a monster of a seller. But War Of The Realms #2 seems to have done better than the first in terms of market impact. Justice League is level pegging. Spider-Man Life Story is doing surprisingly weeks, Uncanny is doing better, and Naomi and Buffy make strong appearances too…

Top ten comics of the week

  1. Batman #69
  2. War of the Realms #2
  3. Justice League #22
  4. Amazing Spider-Man #19.HU
  5. Spider-Man Life Story #2
  6. Uncanny X-Men #16
  7. Naomi #4
  8. Guardians of the Galaxy #4
  9. Daredevil #4
  10. Buffy The Vampire Slayer #4

Thanks to the following retailers,

And here’s what they had to say,

Two issues of Batman in two weeks means Batman has been flying high on the FFF Weekly Top Ten list. As for the rest of the week’s top sellers, Buffy took the number two spot. It’s great to see so many people jumping back into Buffy. By Season 12 we weren’t selling much more than subs. But with Jordie Bellaire’s Ultimate Buffy (a phrasing I picked up from Donny Cates) we’ve been getting new people coming in with every issue. The super secret surprise release of Angel was met with some excitement, but since no one really knew it was coming out, nobody has specifically come in looking for it like they have Buffy. Speaking of Cates, Guardians of the Galaxy is still selling strong. Spider-Man took two spots with Amazing Spider-Man .Hu and Life Story were #4 and #8 respectively. War of the Realms is dropping hard. I don’t see the later issues (and the issues they’ll inevitably add later on) being huge sellers. Uncanny and Justice League have been selling well, usually breaking the Top Ten each month. Uncanny has been selling better and better as time goes on as lapsed fans have been finding out that the X-Men are actually good again.

—–

Batman hit us two weeks in a row, so naturally, Batman dominated sales two weeks in a row. Not a bad thing by any means- Always gets people through the door. I did find it a little odd that no one, not a single person, asked about it or even batted an eye at the fact that it came out twice in two weeks, though. War of the Realms continues to sell super well, and so do the tie-ins. With #2 out, we saw a swell of back-trackers picking up both issues, as well as all the tie-ins we’ve still got on the shelf (it’s worth noting that Journey Into Mystery didn’t survive on the shelf into this week, and is by far the most popular tie-in thus far because of the fact that the McElroy brothers are writing it). Everything else is business as usual: Uncanny is holding momentum, but the Age of X-Man books have more or less peaked, only going to subs at this point, Avengers No Road Home closed stronger than it began, and Spider-Man Life Story is eye-catching and roped in a lot of folks this week. Daredevil is holding steady, but isn’t picking up a ton of new readers, despite the fact that it’s probably the best DD has been since… well, since Mark Waid.

Report Ad

—–

Batman slipped this week to third place. People are tired of Batman being trapped in various dreams for so long. Justice League 22 and Amazing Spiderman 19. HU outsoldit this week. Solid week for sales.

—–

BATMAN may be sitting in the top spot as usual, but it’s mostly Marvel’s week this time around. UNCANNY X-MEN was right on Bats’ heels this week, and other than a strong showing from JUSTICE LEAGUE it’s Marvel almost the entire rest of the way down the list.

We’ve got plenty of arachnid action, with the most recent installment of the current Kraven story in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, the continuing adventures of MILES MORALES SPIDER-MAN, as well as the second issue in the increasingly superb SPIDER-MAN LIFE STORY.

Elsewhere on the list we see TEEN TITANS, as well as Marvel mainstays like THOR, DAREDEVIL, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

—–

Little Bird is making a smooth way to the top. East of West is also standing strong.

First, called it about the Hunters

and I really enjoy the Felicia and the Lizard part, same goes for Spidey's

but, what took me out of it was the art near the end, I mean what was that.

and because of the art

it a B- from me

@zariusii:

@animehunter: well this story was not engaging in this issue. When the hell is Kraven gonna step in. Spidey's been rather inactive here just hanging around in Central Park rather than getting to the bottom of this.

ROFL, Kama and Peter discover each other's identities, and your biggest takeaway from the previews is a Superior Spider-Man callback?

No. not exactly

The fact he had something surgically inserted in his to stop what happened before from happening again, because this is the first we're hearing of it.

Plus them discovering each others identities was a given, definitely not something I was surprised about.

Not like in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #42 where Lunella reveals that she knows Peter is Spider-Man

Detective Comics #1000 Pushed DC to First Place in Dollar Marketshare in March 2019

Marvel Comics retained their traditional dominance of share of comics sold in North American comic book stores in March 2019. But DC Comics’ Detective Comics #1000, a ten dollar comic that sold huge numbers, helped push DC to take the dollar marketshare – for this month at least. Marvel took a 40.94% market share in items sold and a 34.46% market share in dollars. This compares to 44.48% and 40.20% in February and 41.29% and 39.24% in January. Looks like March reversed Marvel’s increase and then some. This compares to January where Marvel had dollar share (39.24%) and unit share (41.29%) with DC Comics on dollar share of (29.70%) and unit share (33.39%).

While DC Comics had a 34% share of items sold and a 36.20% market share in dollars. Which compares to a February unit share of 30.64% and dollar share of 28.69%. And a January unit share of 33.39% and dollar share of 29.7%. Can DC have a Detective Comics #1000 every month? Remeber this is also in a month when DC had about 101 items to Marvel’s 143 items… so the per capita share will be a little different. DC also had seven books in the top ten.

Even with all the Detective Comics action, Image Comics rose closer to their usual ten percent share with 9.63% dollar share and a 9.36% unit share.

Also, notably, 2019 is outperforming 2018 in dollars if not in sales. 7.64% more money raised than this time last year, but 1.68% fewer copies of things sold…

Image Comics’ bestseller The Walking Dead #189 was at #30, BOOM! Studios’ Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3 at #76, IDW Publishing’s Transformers #1 at #90, Dark Horse Comics’ The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion #6 at #131, and Dynamite Entertainment’s Red Sonja #2 at #135.

Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, and Cliff Rathburn’s The Walking Dead Volume 31: The Rotten Core from Image Comics was the best-selling graphic novel of March. In total, Image Comics had six titles in the top ten. DC had four titles in the top ten, led by Detective Comics: 80 Years of Batman at #2.

BBC Books’ Doctor Who: Thirteen Doctors 13 Stories, a young readers anthology of short stories featuring each of the Doctor’s incarnation, was the best-selling book of March. Gemstone Publishing’s Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide Volume 48 returned to the top ten at #5. Also in the top ten, Dark Horse Comics’ Middle-Earth: Journeys in Myth and Legend, an art book featuring Donato Giancola’s work based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, ranked #7 for the month.

Good Smile’s Overwatch: Reaper Figma, based on the best-selling video game from Blizzard Entertainment, was the best-selling toy product of March. Diamond Select Toys had three products in the month’s top ten, led by the Marvel Gallery: Avengers Infinity War: Iron Spider-Man PVC Statue at #2. DC Collectibles also had three products among the top ten, with the Batman Family: Batman Multi-Part Statue, the first piece in a new statue line, as their best-selling product at #6.

The Creature Codex, a sourcebook for Paizo’s Pathfinder role-playing game, was the best-selling game product of March and one of Paizo’s eight products among the month’s top ten.
