The Spider-Man and Skottie Young covers are really cool. I might buy the last issue just to pick these up.

    From Bleeding Cool

Marvel Adds Spidey #1 To The Back of Deadpool & The Mercs For Money #1

    STK691232

This is clearly the new thing.

A reprint of The Vision #1 was added in the back ofSpider-Man/Deadpool #1 this week, in order to get more people to sample the rather wonderful comic, completely for free (except for the extra shipping paid by retailers.)

Well, they’re doing it again, putting the new early days Spidey #1 by Robbie Thompson and Nick Bradshaw in the back of the upcoming Deadpool & The Mercs #1.

Is this Deadpool’s new role for Marvel in light of the upcoming film? As a sampling exercise?

@animehunter: Not quite as random as sticking Vision on the back of Spidey/Deadpool, but just as odd. It's an all-ages book and yet it's attached to a Deadpool series?

Oh, and in newspaperland, Namor's about to open fire on the city when Spidey obstructs his vision by webbing the ship's windows up.

A little update on the animation project I've added about five pages to the mini-series pilot script (content from asm #418) this will naturally increase the expense but will make the story more well rounded, emotionally powerful and accessible for casual fans. We are in contact with a video game and cgi film company stationed in India and are soon going to send the script over for an estimate of the expense.

Brian Michael Bendis On Miles Morales Being THE Spider-Man & More

With the powder keg of the Secret Wars finale primed and ready to explode, the Marvel Universe gears up for a new Spider-Man to be swinging around it's neighborhoods - Miles Morales. The All-New All-Different Marvel Universe allows the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis, Sara Pichelli, Justin Ponsor & co. to tell all new stories for the character they brought to comics.

We were lucky enough to spend some time talking to Brian Bendis about the new series, what his hopes fans will take from the book and why now is the perfect time for Miles to star in the mainline Marvel U.

Bringing Miles into the All-New All- Different Marvel Universe must open up a ton of new doors for a ton of different story lines. How do you decide essentially on where to start first?

Brian: Its interesting because I at one point had given my resignation on the book. I said "All right, I’m going to bring Miles to 616 and then I guess I will walk off into the sunset with a 16 year run on Spider-Man."

You have to leave eventually. At the same time I really didn't want to. It was like "I guess I should go?" That kind of thing. It was much farther than I thought I would get to take the character. When publishing lines go away at any company you just have to go away, that's it. You know what I mean? It was strange because for a while I had no idea the plans for Miles post Secret Wars. I did not know Miles was going to be an Avenger. I did not know at the time that Peter Parker was going to become a billionaire. With Peter’s story changing so much, it allowed Miles this opportunity to be the traditional Spider-Man figure in the Marvel Universe.

There is still Peter Parker, but he's almost global whereas, like the classic Spider-Man stories, Miles would be wrestling between being a teenager and a superhero and staying in the boroughs doing what he can. Boy, that got f—— exciting. You know what I mean? That got "Oh, my God I didn't realize there was going to be so much to do." I said "Can I take back me not doing this book?" Someone said "Yeah, no one asked you to leave." Then another person said "No, we didn't take you seriously." It was very funny. My pitch was that I think we should just call the book Spider-Man, not Spider-Man*. You know what I mean?

    Yup

Brian: This is Spider-Man. The message of Miles that the fans and the world took for itself is that anyone can be Spider-Man and anyone of any color can be Spider-Man. So the title of the book should be Spider-Man, flat out Spider-Man. Not Miles Morales: Spider-Man, not Spectacular Spider-Man, Teenage Spider-Man or Spider-Boy. Unanimously everyone in the room said “That's a fantastic message to put out there.” It takes us to the next level with him and off we go. Then we had a long talk about “okay, this character will come from one dimension to the other dimension and I was not interested in any kid out of time, fish out of water story.” You know what I mean?

He was already a fish out of water. You’re a fish out of water in your own skin so I don't want to have to explain what the Ultimate Universe was every issue. At the same time I don't want to lose all the cool stuff we had in it. We decided that we’re going to open the story with him in just the hero suit, status quo, and here is what he's worried about and here is what he's up against. We pretty much took all the stuff from the Ultimate Universe that really worked and wasn't broken at all and had a lot more story in and anything that was repetitive, stuff that was already in the Marvel Universe we said goodbye to sadly.

Can you elaborate on what Miles knows, or remembers from Secret Wars or his Ultimate Universe life?

Brian: I got to be cool with that, it will be in the story.

    Okay.

Brian: He survived an event. You know what I mean?

    Right.

Brian: His perspective on that is be unique and it speaks to some choices that he’s been making. I think people know 8 months have gone by since the end of Secret Wars. We'll see immediately we will see the fall out of the choices he has made because of that.

At this point I'm just so desperate not to ruin Jonathan Hickman & Esad Ribic’s story.

This is not just Brian doing a continuation of the Ultimate book? This is Miles, dropped in a new world, with all-new adventures, with new trials and tribulations all viewed through that lens.

    Brian: Absolutely.

As far as the extended cast is confirmed are you able to tell us who's stays and goes?

Brian:Ultimate End #5 came out so we have seen that Ganke makes it over. More people were worried about Ganke than they worried about Miles. Ganke is fine. Ganke and Bombshell, who was an original character that there was no Marvel Universe equivalent of, was one of Miles' buddies are still in this story. His gang of friends remains intact, and added on to that gang of friends is Kamala Khan, Sam Alexander and the people that he's in the Avengers with already. There is a pretty solid group of new characters from this last few years that have all found each other in friendship and adversity. That's cool.

Also, we find out that Miles has his Mom back for his effort in Secret Wars. He made some pretty spectacular heroic moves at the end of Secret Wars, thanks to Jonathan Hickman and in return when the universe got put back together he got him Mom back. With that comes the struggle to be Spider-Man behind her back when so much is going on. Its near impossible, and anybody will tell you when you're trying to live whatever life you’re trying to live outside of your parent’s umbrella, while you’re still living under their umbrella is very, very hard. No matter what you are or what you do. For Miles its Spider-Man.

You get to work with Sara Pichelli again how is that? Is that like getting the band back together for a reunion tour?

Brian: It absolutely is. Sara and I, have talked about this. We have a baby together and that baby is named Miles. We are very proud of our young child, and bringing him here to this place together is very, very exciting for both of us. I know that as much fun as we've had on other projects I could always tell that Sara was missing Miles and worried about him, like a mommy. I said "Hey, listen we're bringing Miles to the Marvel Universe and we should do this together." Yes. She didn't even question.

There were other things we had planned, we had other plans for other things, but this one jumped to the front of the line. Hopefully we'll get to the other stuff too.

It was fun to have her come back into his world and he's a little older and things are a little different. There would be no Miles without Sara. Sara's ability as a designer, both as a page designer and a fashion designer are just staggering, just unbelievably staggering.

I honestly think she is one of the greatest artists in comics on the planet Earth right now. I think Miles will be one of the great jewels of her crown. I'm glad to be here and be part of it and give her things to challenge her and things to do.

One more question for you. What is the reaction you’re hoping for as fans reach the final page of the first issue?

Brian: It’s the reaction you always want which is "Damn!"

Miles has a lot of readers. People panicked that we weren't going to get to this book. We had to wait until Secret Wars was over. What I want is to reward those fans for their commitment to the character. You have no idea how intimate and passionate people's reaction to Miles is. It’s the greatest gift I've ever gotten in comics. It’s just unbelievable. I want to reward that with this experience and at the same time, for people who are going to pick it up with "I've heard a lot about this, Okay, what the hell is this?"

I wanted to state our case for what a modern Spider-Man would be like that isn't Peter Parker. I think the first issue absolutely does it. It also sets the stage for the story lines to come, which there are so many. That's the other good news, there is so much story. That's always like "How much story do I have here?" It’s always a writers thing, but every page reveals more story and more story and more story for future issues and that's exciting.

This is just the start of another 16 year run then, right?

Brian: I would love to. The third thing and not in any order, but I would love, like people do every time we have worked together, people write me and go "Holy shit, Sara Pichelli." That's my favorite thing in the world.

I'm immensely proud of our collaboration together, and next chapters of collaborations as I get older that ends up being even better than the first time. You go "Oh, wow we are kicking ass together." Then you take a break for a year and come back and go "We are still kicking ass together and we're better at what we do." I have this with Alex Maleev and I have this with Mike Oeming. Its stuff that, some of it, the naked eye won't see, but I see it and that's exciting.

Every page that Sara designed in the first issue is so different from the way she handled it a few years ago. That's exciting to be part of, the evolution of an artist and to write into. That's just the best.

    That's awesome.

Brian: I would love, my goal in life now is that Miles isn't the diversity Spider-Man, he's just Spider-Man. The conversation completely goes away because it’s so normalized that no one even notices. I think more and more that's happening, I really do. I don't think most people read Miles because specifically they want to read the African-American or Hispanic Spider-Man.

They just want to read a comic book by people who give a shit.

    Comic Book Legends Revealed #557

Welcome to the five hundred and fifty-seventh in a series of examinations of comic book legends and whether they are true or false. Click here for an archive of the first five hundred (I actually haven’t been able to update it in a while). This week, learn why an episode of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends only aired once! Did Jim Starlin nearly kill off Shang-Chi? And finally, did Mark Waid originally intend to use Impulse at another comic book company before bringing him over to the pages of the Flash?

    Let’s begin!

NOTE: The column is on three pages, a page for each legend. There’s a little “next” button on the top of the page and the bottom of the page to take you to the next page (and you can navigate between each page by just clicking on the little 1, 2 and 3 on the top and the bottom, as well).

COMIC LEGEND: An episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends was pulled from the regular synidcation package because of its plotline involving Spidey and the gang fighting Nazis.

    STATUS: True

Last week, I discussed the difficulties that comic book companies have in depicting plotlines involving Nazi bad guys outside of the comics.

Reader Cerebro wrote in about another interesting example of this phenomenon, involving the Spider-Man animated series, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.

In the Season 1 finale, in an episode written by the showrunner of the series, Dennis Marks, Spider-Man faced off against the Red Skull in “The Quest of the Red Skull”…

The episode was intended as a sort of homage of the then-recent hit film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, as Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar aid Professor Hiawatha Smith (instead of Indiana Jones) against Red Skull and his Nazi underlings…

The episode involved a history lesson about World War II (where Firestar is oddly grossly ignorant about the events of World War II – “Wow, this Hitler guy is pretty bad!”)

And the story revolves a giant rock swastika…

In any event, after airing once, NBC then pulled the episode from their regular Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends syndication package. However, the episode DID air a few more times. At least once in 1988 as part of Marvel’s Action Universe and once in 1999 on the UPN. And I believe when the whole series went up on Netflix, it was included. But it was not included when the series aired on Toon Disney or ABC Family, as it was not a part of the show’s standard syndication package.

It’s too bad, as the episode is actually very good overall.

Thanks to Cerebro for the suggestion!

Comic Book Collector With Cerebral Palsy Has His Collection Stolen By Thieves

    steffan-warren

It's already the beginning of the second week of the new year, but Steffan Warren is already having one of the worst days.

Monday morning, Warren, who has Cerebral Palsy, was robbed of his entire comic collection along with statues and electronics. Warren was at work at the time, thankfully, but tells Denver's CBS affiliate, he simply wants this collection back.

It’s estimated the crooks took a total of $30,000 worth of his possessions.

For the news coverage head to the main page or CLick here

“I didn’t have friends growing up. My whole life was comic books and I’ve been made fun of every day. It was a way for me to take myself out of this reality, so I wouldn’t always be hurt,” Warren said.

It's reported that the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the robbery, but Warren doesn’t think he’ll see any of his collection ever again.

That's truly unfortunate for such a genuine fan.

Invincible Iron Man #6 is meant to be the issue that kicks off the lead into Civil War II this year.

Which is why Marvel are encouraging retailers to stock a few more than usual. Any who order more of issue 6 than issue 4 of the series (the one that introduced Mary Jane Watson into the series) will get an extra 10% off all their orders on the issue.

AXEL-IN-CHARGE: Embracing the "Star Wars" Prequels, "Uncanny X-Men's" Killer Lineup

Fridays on CBR mean Axel's In Charge.

Welcome to MARVEL A-I-C: AXEL-IN-CHARGE, CBR's regular interview feature withMarvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso!

An editor with years of experience in comics receiving both critical acclaim and best-selling status, Alonso stepped into the chair at the top of Marvel's Editorial department and since then has been working to bring his signature stylings to the entire Marvel U. Anchored by regular question and answer rounds with the denizens of the CBR Community, each week Alonso will shake things up with special guest stars, exclusive art reveals and more!

RELATED: Axel Alonso Reflects on Marvel Comics in 2015

In the first AXEL-IN-CHARGE of 2016, Alonso talks a big week of new Marvel launches -- headlined by the Joe Kelly & Ed McGuinness reunion in "Spider-Man/Deadpool," Cullen Bunn &Greg Land relaunching "Uncanny X-Men," Charles Soule & Marco Checchetto pairing Star Wars Jedis "Obi-Wan & Anakin," the new volume of "A-Force" from G. Willow Wilson & Jorge Molinaand Skottie Young & Filipe Andrade's return to the Guardians of the Galaxy world in "Rocket Raccoon and Groot." Plus, a "Karnak" update, Alonso's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"thoughts and more, including your questions, direct from the CBR Community.

    ---

In last week's column, we talked a little about 2016 stuff, but I wanted to ask this -- in 2015, fans saw multiple areas of Marvel's publishing line grow, notably the Spider-Man extended family, female-led titles and humor-leaning books. Now that it's 2016, is there a section of the line that you're looking to similarly grow and nurture?

Alonso: I think everything you described -- the rise of diverse superheroes that increasingly reflect our growing audience, comedic titles, new genres and genre-hybrids -- helps our medium grow and find new readers. So it's not really a matter of focusing on one thing so much as continuing to water all the seeds we've planted.

RELATED: Kelly & McGuiness Unsheathe Razor Sharp Wits in "Spider-Man/Deadpool"

It was another big week for new #1s at Marvel. Let's start with "Spider-Man/Deadpool" -- personally, the Joe Kelly and Ed McGuiness run on "Deadpool" was one of the most formative comic books of my youth, but that was very nearly 20 years ago. It can be hard for creators to recapture that magic after that long, but based on the first issue, it seems like it was natural for that pair to rekindle their dynamic. What are your thoughts on the reunion pulled off in this book?

Alonso: There really was only one creative team for this book: Joe and Ed. All due respect to everyone else out there, but it was kind of a steep drop to option #2. And full disclosure: Part of the reason we wanted this team is that in an era of kinda out-there books like "Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat" and "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur," Joe [Kelly] and Ed [McGuinness] doing "Spider-Man/Deadpool" is a great counter-balance. It feels familiar... but unpredictable. A shout-out to old-school fans that wouldn't come at the expense of wooing new fans.

    From Bleeding Cool

Civil War II – It’s Iron Man Vs Captain Marvel, And A Major Marvel Hero Will Die

Captain Marvel is the current defender of the Earth. Her new series by Michele Fazekas, Tara Butters and Kris Anka sees her as leader of the all-new Alpha Flight space program, Earth’s first line of defense against extraterrestrial threats.

And she also seems to be the one up against Iron Man in the upcoming Civil War III comic book event series by Brian Bendis and David Marquez.

The New York Daily News has been given the PR on a Marvel creator summit this weekend. Famously only attended by Marvel creators who have signed exclusive contracts with the publisher (even if not everyone is told it at the time), this also might indicate that Ta-Nehisi Coates is an exclusive Marvel comics creator. He attended, alongside G Willow Wilson, Brian Bendis, James Robinson, Tom Brevoort, Dan Buckley, Sam Humphries, Nick Spencer, Emily Shaw, Sana Amanat and EIC Axel Alonso.

And a breakdown on what Civil War II will be about.

“A mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy,” according to the synopsis. “This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime.”

Could this be Singularity from A-Force, also starring Captain Marvel? Or something new? Oh and it’s about Twitter.

“People’s personal accountability is the theme of this one,” Bendis explains to his peers of his project with artist David Marquez. “From the way cops are acting on camera, to the way people talk to each other online.”

As the story unfolds this new seer predicts the hero in question will be the cause of a major incident of destruction in three days, requiring the other good guys to make a tough call. The writer just hasn't figured what or how bad that cataclysm will be.

“It has to fall somewhere between Hitler and self-defence,” Bendis says.

Well that would fit what the dead Agatha Harkness has been seeing about The Vision in his comic, and she’s also been turning up in Scarlet Witch… but no.

Though they also didn't immediately settle on a big-name hero to turn into the culprit, Bendis kept referring to the doomed hero as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man.

“Do you see me worried? I'm not worried,” whispers “Amazing Spider-Man” writer Dan Slott. “This is not my first rodeo. By the end of the afternoon, it won’t be Peter Parker.”

And sure enough, Parker is saved a grim fate by the afternoon as mass opinion shifts attention to other characters.

And not Human Torch, saved by Bendis…

“He burns people and that’s so horrible (to illustrate),” the scribe says.

And James Robinson isn't allowed to let anyone kill themselves.

“What if the pressure causes (the hero) to commit suicide,” suggests James Robinson, another Marvel writer, adding that it could be a good way to draw attention to the scourge of cyber-bullying.

But editor Tom Brevoort’s Spidey-sense is immediately tingling.

“I don’t think you’d want a Marvel Super hero committing suicide,” he interjects.

Jean Grey did, of course. Bruce Banner has tried (and failed). Karnak too. And of coure, Patsy Walker. But the paper reports that they have their death.

After hours of occasionally heated debate, Bendis and Alonso reveal they had a eureka moment during a 10-minute break and came up with the perfect superhero to sacrifice and an even better candidate to murder him. The answer actually gets a loud ovation from the crowd.

“That’s like an epic,” says Robinson. “I'm genuinely shocked.”

But they are also aware of how cynical this all is.

“The death is the marketing hook,” admits Buckley. “The thing that’s really compelling is whether or not there’s a story afterwards that’s going to connect with readers and sustain it.”

Death by committee… The New York Daily News declines to reveal who it is, which mean they probably have the deal to reveal it one or two days before the comic is published….

MARVEL SAYS DEATH OF HIGH-PROFILE HERO IGNITES "CIVIL WAR II"

There's no such thing as a civil war free of some bloodshed, and in this year's "Civil War II", by Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez and Justin Ponsor, one of Marvel's most famous heroes will die by the hand of another.

The New York Daily News reports that Bendis and company settled on the fate of the high-profile characters at a recent Marvel editorial retreat, and that when they decided who would go to comic book superhero-heaven, and who would be left with blood on their hands, the gathered writers and editors cheered at the dramatic choice.

The original 2006-07 "Civil War" miniseries, by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, was noted for its character deaths, as well as the questions it posed about civil liberties and national security in a post-9/11 landscape. Bendis says that the latest series is similarly rooted in the controversial news headlines of today. "People’s personal accountability is the theme of this one,” he tells the New York Daily News. "From the way cops are acting on camera, to the way people talk to each other online."

Marvel's last hero-vs-hero blockbuster, soon to be adapted on the big screen in "Captain America: Civil War," pitted Iron Man against the Star-Spangled Avenger, but this time it'll be Ol' Shellhead vs. Captain Marvel, with other heroes taking sides.

RELATED: Axel Alonso Promises "Civil War II" Will "Force You to Take a Side"

The official "Civil War" synopsis reads, "A mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy. This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime."

RELATED: March to "Civil War II": Don't Judge Marvel's Events By Their Title

There are a couple names readers can check off their list already. According to the report, it will not be Human Torch or Peter Parker/Spider-Man that end up six-feet-under, although Bendis was using the Web-Head as a placeholder during discussions, until he and Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso came up with their ultimate choice during a break between meetings.

The gathered Marvel higher-ups acknowledged the slippery nature of character deaths in licensed, ongoing stories, with Marvel publisher Dan Buckley admitting that first death will merely serve as the series' "marketing hook," explaining, "The thing that’s really compelling is whether or not there’s a story afterwards that’s going to connect with readers," and expressing confidence that the full story will resonate with invested fans.

With "Captain America: Civil War" hitting theaters May 6, and "Civil War II" reaching comic book shelves the month after, company leadership suggest that the comic story could prove essential to the Marvel canon down the line.

"If you want to really see a road map of where our movies will be (going) in the next five, 10 or 20 years, read the comics," Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada says. "They’re almost always a precursor to what’s on the horizon in our [Marvel] Cinematic Universe."

What do you think? Who do you trust Marvel to murder?

Major Marvel Character To Be Killed Off In Civil War II

To the surprise of basically no one, Marvel Comics plans to kill off what's described as a "major" Marvel superhero in the forthcoming event miniseries Civil War II, The Daily Newsreports.

The comic, which pits Iron Man against Captain Marvel with a team of Avengers flanking each, sees a mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy. This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime.

Captain Marvel is, of course, being propped up for her 2019 movie, so making her a lead character in a comic designed to cash in on an existing movie (Civil War II starts a month after Civil War hits theatres) makes sense.

“People’s personal accountability is the theme of this one,” series writer Brian Michael Bendis is quoted as saying. “From the way cops are acting on camera, to the way people talk to each other online.”

The incident that galvanizes the superheroes into battle against one another involves this new seer predicting a catastrophe that will be brought on by a superhero in three days. This far out from publication, though, Bendis hasn't quite figured out what the catastrophe is. At the point when he was pitching the story, he hadn't even yet decided on a culprit. The article describes Bendis using Spider-Man Peter Parker as a kind of "placeholder" so they could have conversations about the story, but The Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott said he knew all along that Peter wouldn't be the guy they used -- and ultimately he wasn't.

“The death is the marketing hook,” explained publisher David Buckley. “The thing that’s really compelling is whether or not there’s a story afterwards that’s going to connect with readers and sustain it.”

Yeesh, they just love killing Peter off..even if it was just as a placeholder option while they worked out who they were actually going to kill off.

We saw Peter being against Tony coming from the get-go...how else can you milk drama out of Peter and MJ's inevitable reunion?

I hope that Peter will be a main part of the story.

I bet that Captain America (Sam Wilson) is going to be killed off.

Yeah, hopefully he is basically the main person on Captain Marvel's side, providing tech and $$$ for them and also being one of their main powerhouses.

Peter's guest-starring in the next Iron Man arc "War Machines", an arc they've already confirmed will have ties to this event.

Anyone reckon Kamala could turn on Carol in this event?

Hopefully we see Spider-Armor vs Iron Man armor and/or Parker Industries vs Stark Enterprises! That would be cool!

Hopefully Civil War II will undo OMD, or at least bring MJ back into ASM.

The fact that Peter is going to be in Iron man with MJ doesn't mean they will get back together. The arc is most likely going to explain why Peter and Tony are on different sides of the conflict, I doubt Marvel is going to put MJ and Peter back together as they have prevented it for more then 8 years and the Spider-Man team has no plans for the character of MJ.

I hope not. But it would bring conflict to the story.

When I said "reunion", I didn't specifically mean they will get back together (they're obviously not), they could reunite in the sense there will be the usual bit of tension since Bendis is keen on following up on where she was left at the end of her run in the Spider-books,and I don't doubt one of the things Marvel are keen on is putting the pair of them on opposite ends of the conflict to increase that tension and further create a divide.

@animehunter: Over in newspaperland, Peter is about to face down Namor for the second time. MJ is watching on television, but actually doubts her husband stands much of a chance against him (this makes sense because she was the one who found him unconscious on the docks after the last fight nearly drowned him and she had to shake him back into consciousness)

Steven Moffat’s Doctor Who And The Secret Wars #9 Finale? (SPOILERS)

    Bleeding Cool

I have been told that the finale of Secret Wars #9 by Jonathan Hickman andEsad Ribic, to be published this Wednesday, bears something in similarity toSteven Moffat‘s first Doctor Who story with Christopher Eccleston.

That’s all. How peculiar. What could it be? SPOILER SPECULATION to follow…

Because that would be the two parter The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. Featuring Rose and The Doctor travelling back to London during the Blitz, and encountering some kind of disease that turns people into gas mask wearing zombies asking “are you my mummy.”

We’ve seen that Doctor Doom no longer has a mask in Invincible Iron Man. Does everyone get infected with Doctor Doom masks?

It also has the Doctor dancing with both Rose and Captain Jack, and dancing used an an allegory for sexuality, especially nontraditional forms. Could we have Mister Fantastic… dancing with Doctor Doom?

Or, and this would be my theory, tapping into the catchphrase for the episode. Because, while we have seen the Battleworld exploding…

    …and exploding…

We also know that somehow, people survive, and many from different world are now part of the All-New All-Different Marvel Universe. So if I was to put my money where my mouth is, it would be this…

We’ll find out on Wednesday. Or Tuesday morning if the New York Daily News runs it.

Is anybody else a little irked that Bendis kept pushing for Peter to be killed off?

Like, I don't want to make a big deal out of it or anything but I'm a little confused there. Two different, very important versions of Peter have been killed off in the last five years. Ultimate Peter in 2011 and 616 Peter in 2012, even though both characters came back (although Ultimate Peter is now permanently dead).

Not to mention all of those versions of Peter killed during Spider-Verse, you know? It's all getting a little tiring, seeing your favorite character getting murdered over and over again. In fact, I was actually surprised that Slott ended up shifting opinion, essentially protecting the character. Good on him, I've had enough talk of 'will Peter die or be replaced or be depowered?' for now, he literally just came back, can't we just let the character breathe and fight the good fight for now?

It's just left a really bad taste in my mouth, that Bendis isn't satisfied enough with killing Ultimate Peter, arguably the greatest version of the character in recent years, and was actually using mainstream Peter as a placeholder for the hero that would die. I can just imagine him pitching the story, referring to the catalyst that's going to kick off Civil War II as a deceased Peter Parker. Man, I used to think Bendis was such a good writer for what he did during his run on Ultimate Spider-Man (Peter, not Miles), Alias, his brief stint on Daredevil, I thought there was nothing he could do that would ever get me to turn on him.

But is he kidding me? I bet nobody suggested Miles, God forbid the second coming gets killed off, don't want Bendis to throw a hissy fit, now, do we? I'm kidding, but it's things like this that reinforces the idea that Bendis is consciously trying to push Peter out of the picture any way he can and replace him with Miles. He's already claimed that now Miles is the main Spider-Man, has given Miles a place on the Avengers, one of the most iconic teams in comic book history, despite doing nothing of note to deserve said place and is now pushing for Peter to be killed yet again.

I hate to say it, but Bendis can go f*** himself.

@animehunter: Congratulations on getting the Iron Man gig at the Crawlspace.

Funny thing occurred in the daily strip, Peter asks just how the wings on Namor's feet works, and Namor's bizarre answer is he'll explain it to his heirs
