Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.
I don't think he's overpowered at all, he just doesn't get serious all that often. When he snapped in Origin of the Species that was a glimpse of what he's capable of when he's not joking around during fights and it was amazing.
" That's what I tried to tell him. But he said his spider-sense made him to over the top. But spider-sense isn't perfect. Not even mine. ;p "
His spider-sense is perfect, but he is not perfect. Spider-man itself is an awesome character and is the most powerful street level superhero, but he couldn't deal with global threats unless he gets help, he is overpowered being as street level superhero, but he could be easily outmashed by anyone that is not street level, spider-man powers would let him to defeat any person with a physical weakness within his skills, someone without weakness could defeat Spider-man easily, unless he uses his intelect to overcome the problem. He can defeat anyone with a physical weakness"
im sory i dont know who almost anyone in this picture is besides spidey and Mr. Fantastic but there is no way Spidey could swing in and beat Reed
Take your pick Parker has some pretty amped up rouges not to mention he has been there during some pretty epic showdowns........honestly nothing takes the cake like during siege when a villain compared the Asgardians to Spider-man and all the villains looked around and realized the web head beat em all one on one(it was sad and funny all in one lol).......things like this make him seem really powerful but then you realize that more people he fights are either short sited (Electro, Rhino, or Venom) or have their own personal short comings (the Goblins) or they underestimate him (Kingpin, Absorbing man, or the Wrecking Crew).........if anything I think he needs a power up........I'm sorry but smart as Pete is and with all the connections he has he should have found a way to power himself up by now (not counting recent issues).
" @DarkSpidey21: Agreed. He is perfect as is (although the recent addition of new tech is quite welcome). "
Yes it is. You gotta do what you gotta do to get the job done. Also I like how the suit helps him out, without boosting him so much that he gets overpowered or anything.
This what? What does "this" mean? This is stupid? This is great! This is ok I guess? Elaborate.
Seriously, I've always understood, strength-wise at least, he was on the tier below the ultra-powered guys like Hulk, Thor, Thanos, Silver Surfer and the like. He's stronger than Iron Man, faster than Cap or Hawkeye, brainy (as in naturally gifted but not as educated) as Reed Richards. If he had the killer instinct (which he doesn't) he could go toe to toe with Wolverine or Magneto. The spider sense is also a VERY formidably power that, when kept secret, gives Pete a HUGE advantage in battle, as does his ability to stick to damn near anything. His artistry in web-weaving is also something which not a lot of foes can contain for long. True, it's good that some of his more powerful foes like Sandman and Rhino are dumb-asses (as previously mentioned), but Spider-Man is street level only because he's always (at least until the least decade) been portrayed as a poor, struggling everyman. Give him Stark's or Wayne's or even the Richard's cash flow and we'd see a more Friendly Super-Spider-Man.
Spiderman is the pinnacle of street level character/hero, with his powers, abilities and skill set. He can defeat and check damn any character, wither they be hero or villain. But he is very very very far from being overpowered, if anything Spidey is one of the most underpowered heroes ever.
Spider-Man is plot powerful like any other hero, I wish he showed he can rise to the challenge against any threat if he tried sense he's one of the smartest and adaptable superheroes in fiction and one of the most creative. This is what Batman is created to do, a pioneered swiss army knife against enemies above his paygrade with his vast wealth and brains.
@fadetoblackbolt: I wouldnt say that, maybe for Venom, Carnage and Morlun but people like Otto for instance dont dwarf him in power, I've been reading the very beginning of Amazing Spider-Man and in the first few fights of Pete vs Otto when Pete got past his arms all it took was one punch to actually KO Otto IIRC, and Peter holds back a lot against his more human villains.
