    Spider-Man

    Character » Spider-Man appears in 16713 issues.

Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.

Looks like Anya Corazon is appearing on the 2017 Spider-Man cartoon -_- You heard it here first btw

Peter's webshooters, the soles of his boots, and the soles of Mile's booths, in addition to the art style, confirm this poster is related to the upcoming 2017 cartoon.

I liked the addition of Miles and Gwen because they've got cool costumes and origins, and they fit the mythos well. Anya--not so much. This seems to make the Spider Island rumors more credible, so I think Anya will likely have an altered origin. Can't get behind her hair and lower face showing though. And 4 spiders seems to be my breaking point. I know they want to sell merchandise, but c'mon now.

Speaking of merchandise, Anya doesn't appear on as much as the others. Hopefully that means she's not sticking around as long...

On the bright side, I'm looking forward to purchasing Peter, Miles, and Gwen figures.

    Meh.

I thought USM was a moderately good series. Then I watched Spectacular Spider-Man. Went back and watched USM, and it felt so cringe. There were a couple really good scenes, but overall, it just didn't feel like a Spider-Man story as much as Avengers-lite, with field leader Spider-Man.

So, I'm glad you enjoy it, but even though they fit the mythos well, I'm not such a fan of them being in a Spider-Man cartoon.

What's weirder still for me is that if this was say, Spider-Brigade, or Spider-Man and his Spectacular Friends, I wouldn't mind so much. But they try and eat their cake and have it, by trying to make it a solo Spidey flick while also having him team-up with every teen superhero imaginable. If they chose one and stuck to it, it would be much more manageable.

It seems so random/weird to choose Anya from all of the Spider-People to put with this team... But oh well. Even so, in general, Anya fits better than either Spider-Gwen or Miles IMO, even if she's not as popular. Anyways, the posted pics looks cool tho. I'm not sure of what to expect from this cartoon and won't judge before it's out but I would prefer a solo Peter cartoon (like many would, I suppose), but I'll see how this goes. Hope it's entertaining.

Anya, better than Spider Gwen and Silk.

Got nothing against Miles other than both him and Peter being teens instead of mentor and protege.

Why not Spider Woman - Jessica Drew.

I like the Spider-Verse of characters, but what Marvel really needs to make is a Peter Parker-focused cartoon. Why was Spectacular so much better than Ultimate? SSM was focused on what motivates Peter to be Spider-Man, not just mindless villain battles and episodes where Peter never takes his mask off. For a cartoon, SSM had actual good character development and decent plots. USM was a pile of hot garbage.

And I agree with you heavily dude. WE DEFINITELY NEED A SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN SEASON 3!!!!!!!! That show should have never got the axe like it did. Especially for crap like Ultimate Spider-Man.

Yes, my first and forever choice will always be Peter and MJ. But I also do like Peter and Black Cat. Those two are the only ladies for him with MJ being first and Felicia second.

Glad we agree on Spectacular, but who wouldn't. It was excellent beyond recount. Loved Josh Keaton as Peter and MJ as well. Wish I could've seen Gwen dying in the series though. She might've died in S3 but by Harry's hand. And we could've gotten Scorpion, Hobgoblin, Carnage, Jackal, etc.

I like Miles and Gwen, but not the other spinoffs. I was hoping for a Peter centered show with Miles and Gwen occasionally appearing as guest stars. Oh, well. I guess Marvel just wants another Ultimate Spider-Man rather than a Spectacular Spider-man. I don't see any of these Disney Marvel shows attracting long time fanbases like the 90s Marvel shows, DCAU, or Spectacular Spider-man did though.

Any Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends fans? Anybody? SSM isn't better only because it's better written. The focus is different. You're right, SSM focused on Peter's motivations, but that's just the problem: USM doesn't really have a goal. It was trying to be a Spider-Man story, a teenA(ven)gers cartoon/sitcom, and an Agents of SHIELD cartoon all at once. They should have picked one goal, and done it really well.

@bjparks: Good point. The whole "Spider-Man trains Iron Fist, White Tiger, etc," thing fizzled out early in the show. With no real direction left, USM became a Spider-Man cartoon with the main focus of creating more designs to be made into action-figures. Every episode was just Spider-Man fighting a villain and winning, no real plot or anything.

@ursaber: I'm with you on MJ and Felicia. Those are the two definitive loves in Peter's life, everything else is merely a fling. Felicia and Mary Jane both sit at number one for me.

I love Josh Keaton as Peter, his my favorite voice actor who has voice Peter yet.

Vanessa Marshall as Mary Jane was also great. She brought a chill sexiness to the character.

Tricia Helfer as Black Cat was also lovely and sexy. I would have love to see Scorpion, Hobgoblin, Carnage, Jackal and other baddies in Season 3, it would have been very awesome. I think Gwen would have might her end by Norman, since it was getting very personal between Peter and Norman. But Harry would have been just hard.

I agree my friend. SSM focus on Peter and Spidey's motivations and goals equally. Along with characters as well. They also blended they own ideas and with ones from the comics, very well.

USM is a shallow, hollow and gimmick cartoon. That like you said is just a tool for saling action figures.

Not really. Too many spiders. Peter Parker is now just one of the mill. If he hadn't been the original, he'd be just another picture on the wall. Dan Slott is consulting so that also spells dread. And damn Teen Spidey. Although now it looks more like Kid Spidey.

True. It also showed when they focused on character pieces rather than heroic battles. The strongest episodes where when they just took Peter and someone else, or Peter by himself. No such luck this time around.

Because I like MJ first and only and Gwen is just competition, a dead competition. The mere mention of her or reference creates a damn deus ex machina that completely throws Peter off and it messes with his MJ relationship.

Gwen was also boring and stale and a literal barbie. She was not interesting in the least, is not as strong, dynamic or entertaining as MJ and was a typical stereotypical damsel love interest with no substance. The most interesting thing she did was die. That says a lot about her character.

Gwen interferes with Peter and MJ, that's why I dislike Gwen. She was not nor will she ever be Spider Man's definitive true love interest.

Gwen is dead. She's been dead since the 70's. She is the past. Her death created the Peter Parker we all know and love and proved to him beyond the shadow of a doubt that with great power comes great responsibility.

MJ as far surpassed and outgrown the shadow of Gwen. She is superior. She has been marketed more than Gwen. She was the love interest in the first live actions films, in the first animated series, in the video games, etc. Gwen is only starting to reach her prominence now in the modern age whereas MJ has had this for longer.

Case in point, if someone likes Gwen, that's preferencial and acceptable in that sense. But it is fact and definitive that the number 1 undisputed love interest is MJ, there's really no debating that as a universal consensus. MJ RULES!

In the Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane books, Gwen eventually realizes Peter care for MJ more than her and gives him an ultimatum, keep hanging out with MJ or lose her (Peter and MJ were just friends and weren't even dating in the book's final issues). Peter chooses to value the friendship he has with MJ and Gwen leaves him. The book then ends with Peter and MJ in an ambiguous state...though McKeever later confirmed the two got together at the end, at least in his mind.

Hell, even Greg Wiesman, who insisted he would'nt kill Gwen off in Spectacular Spider-Man if it had continued, said Peter would have still ended up with MJ at the end of the direct-to-video sequels he had mapped out after the actual series had ended naturally (Greg thinks ahead a little too much), instead of being axed.

Odds are she joins later than Gwen and Miles and will be the youngest member with great potential. It's also about time Anya finally got some love outside the comics.

She only ever was a thing because she's Wacker's pet. She did'nt get much love in the comics because most of the fans gave zeros f-s about her.

Anya had to deal with the cancelled Spider Girl fallout and guess what? She survived it and is now getting in a tv show and is one of Marvel's more popular hispanic girl which will easily boost her due to that rising demographic.

If we followed your logic than we would only have the same old white characters from the 90s. We also wouldn't gave gotten the GoTG movies which were instant hits and pushed the character to AAA status when before they weren't even B.

Give me a break. Tv shows have much more viewers than comics and I can guarantee you that Anya will be the fun tomboy of the group and thus will be instantly popular with kids, especially girls, and young adults who never read a comic.

Strange that they didn't go with Cindy who is more popular. But instead choose to steal her costume and give to Anya like they did with Julia.

@sardorim: She's in this show because Wacker pushed for it though.
