Activision announced today that Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is currently in the works from Shaba Games and Treyarch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii and PC. Although it wasn't ready to say too much about the action-adventure game, Activision did tell us that Web of Shadows will be set in a free-roaming, open-ended New York that combines web slinging with customizable superpowers. There will be the traditional combo attacks on the ground, but the game will also feature a brand new emphasis on vertical combat as gamers take Spidey to the skies and duke it out with bad guys.

However, it might not just be foes who are getting socked in the jaw. According to Activision, Spider-Man's latest adventure will let players choose how they want to play -- if folks want to be the friendly neighborhood superhero, they can, but they can also ignore missions and be the anti-hero who is only looking out for himself. Marvel heroes and villains will pop up in the adventure, and gamers will have the ability to change sides as they see fit.

Activision is keeping its lips sealed about what Spider-Man is up against in the new game but we know it's a threat to the entire world and that it can do some real damage to New York. From the one screenshot and teaser trailer, it looks like Spidey's up against a number of villains who can redecorate buildings and create giant oozing black tendrils. The black gunk and the alien-looking dudes crawling on the side of the building in the teaser makes us think symbiote, but there's no way to know what's going on at this point.

Still, you might be able to get some inside info if you're lucky enough to be at the New York Comic-Con this week. At Activision's booth, the company will be holding voiceover auditions for the title. Videos of the performances will be posted on the Spider-Man: Web of Shadow's website where the community will vote for who they want in the game

    Spider-Man is back!

"Spider-Man:Web Of Shadows" arrives this fall courtesy of the Spidey video game aces at Treyarch and Activision. The web-slinger swings onto shelves across all the major platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii and PC!

The stage is set in an apocalyptic New York City, where a recent symbiote invasion has just brought total devastation to the Big Apple. It's up to our favorite web-slinger to save the day. But HOW Spidey saves the city is another matter entirely.

Do you like treading on the fine thread of moral ambiguity? Or are you more of the up-standing citizen type? "Web of Shadows" gives players more control over Spidey than ever before, as all the decisions gamers make determine the course of the game. Whether you choose to help Luke Cage or decide to assist the Vulture–your actions influence the way Spidey will rescue New York City.

If that doesn't pique your interest, then how about the fact that Spidey is back in black–if you want. Players can instantly swing around in the agile Red & Blues, or the powerful Black costume–allowing for some seriously wicked combos. You can even take to the skies and battle amongst New York City's tallest buildings!

Stay tuned to Marvel.com for more news and updates on "Spider-Man: Web of Shadows." In the meantime, enjoy these seven new amazing screenshots from the game!

I'll hold my judgment till we get a hands on look at the game play. Spider-Man games have become a hit or miss nowadays. Last good one Activision did was Ultimate Spider-Man, I hope they build a new game play instead of using the same old Spider-Man 2 one.

Well, feast your eyes on this video. Treyarch redefines the combat for the game. I'm thinking that this may be the best Spider-Man game even though it hasn't come out yet...

Everyone thought that Spidey was swinging from clouds like the 1st movie game, but it was confirmed that he isn't. you will need buildings. Also about the gameplay. It will be more faster and advanced this time too as you can see in the video. Its really awesome. When you're black suit spider-man the gameplay and combos will be slower, but a lot stronger. I think when you beat a boss you have 2 sides to choose from, Hero or Anti-Hero. Which is like those games where u choose what to do (shadow the hedgehog game*cough* hard*cough* core) This will also take effect on who will fight beside you, the heros or the villians. I think this game will be bette rthan the movie ones, since it's more baed from the comics and it has a darker modd to it. Which feels good to me lol. You can actully fight while you're moving and keep juggling your enemies like 200 miles away. I don't think a red goblin is in there, that's just the henchmen from vulture when you fight him, which is really sweet brawl. Sorry if you guys already knew some of ths stuff, i just wanted to get it out of me and point stuff out. Sorry about that. Also the only confirmed characters so far are Spider-man, Black suit spider-man, Luke Cage, Vulture, Black cat, Wolverine, and Venom. I think Nick fury will be in there too, not for sure. Hope his game as a good story along with all this awesome features =)

    I have a question!

I finished the game and ect. but I am confused, can I still continue playing the game with all the upgrades and costumes or do I have to start all over again? because I like the game but I want to continue and try to get the Iron Spider costume. I was gonna try New Game but I really don't want to do all that crap over again >_<
