    Growing as an orphan, Speed had no idea he was actually named after his father, the original Speed Racer.  His father had mysteriously disappeared years ago.  No one is sure whether or not he is still alive.

    Speed Jr. found himself accepted into Spritle's racing school.  He soon discovered that Headmaster Spirtle was actually his uncle and that he had an older brother named X. Soon Speed, Connor and Lucy found pieces of the Mach 5 in a junk yard and started to rebuild the car. They finally had the car rebuilt and ready for the race.
