    Sonic

Character » Sonic appears in 966 issues.

Sonic is a hedgehog gifted with the power of Speed, he is based on the character in the Sonic the Hedgehog video games that are made by Sega and Sonic Team.

I consider the Archie Sonic Comics to be canon.

Atleast, the post reboot Archie Comics. Prereboot Archie Comics appear to be no longer canon in any form. To the point that World's Collide and Sonic Genesis have been retconned to take place in the new timeline, too, to provide an explanation for the shattered world that doesn't relate back to the old timeline.

My current view of canon is Archie Comics are first tier canon, the games are second tier canon, and SatAM and Adventures of Sonic are third tier canon. Its implied in the comics that the two cartoons happened, but they might've happened differently. How different? Idk. Here's why I consider Archie to be canon:

    1. The Archie Comics are just better than the current games. The plot of Sonic Lost World, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Boom are just awful. Why should I have to accept something terrible as canon, when the Archie Comics are a much better canon? I mean, the Archie Comics has a Freedom Fighters and all the fan favorite characters that don't show up in the games, like Shadow, Big, Cream, Blaze, Knuckles, the Chaotix, etc.

    2. The Archie Comics fix the plot of some of the worst games. Sonic Unleashed had annoying Chip, and started the downward trend of Sonic games being more jokes than exciting adventures. Sonic Lost World was just all around bad!

But in the Archie Comics, Sonic Lost World hasn't happened, yet, and Sonic Unleashed is a much longer and more interesting storyarc. Unfortunately, Sonic Colors still happens, but two out of three isn't bad.

    3. The current games can't really be considered "canon". Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations, and Sonic Lost World were written by Pontac and Graff, NOT Sonic Team. Pontac and Graff have admitted that they don't have a clue about Sonic the Hedgehog nor Sonic's canon. And it shows. On top of that, their games have a ton of continuity issues with each other as well as other games.

In these games, Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Amy, and Knuckles all act completely different. Sonic and Tails just walk around telling jokes. Tails is kind of a stuck up jerk, not the shy kid who lacks confidence and follows Sonic. Amy shows little interest in Sonic, one line in Sonic Lost World, Amy says she never told Sonic "I love [you]". Knuckles is a buttmonkey. And Eggman is a complete idiot and a complete joke.

As for other continuity contradictions, in Sonic Generations, Sonic doesn't remember Green Hill Zone, and Tails doesn't remember Green Hill Zone at all. Despite both visiting Green Hill Zone multiple times in multiple games. The hypnosis ray in Sonic Colors plot has already been used by Dr Eggman in Sonic Pinball Party. The Wisps leave at the end of Sonic Colors, only to return with no explanation in Sonic Lost World and Sonic Runners. The end of Sonic Generations shows Dr Eggman leaving Cubot and Orbot in outer space at the end of Sonic Colors (Killing them off), but then they once again show up again in Sonic Lost World and Sonic Runners for no reason. The plot of Sonic Lost World revolves around Dr Eggman stealing the planet's energy. However, Dark and Light Gaia aren't even mentioned, when they ARE the life force of the planet.

If the games can't even be consistent with each other, they can't really be considered part of any canon. So Archie Comics are canon by default. Also, Sonic Boom has the same problem. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal completely contradict each other. And neither game really has much tying it into the show. I mean, the plane and enerbeam from the games shows up for all of two minutes in the first episode, never to be seen again.

That's a nice theory you got here. Archie comics were better than games for a long time. Post-reboot comics are like expanded game continuity without all the bullshit.

I agree with you for the most part except

1.Sonic lost world takes place on a new world that they found in their adventures hence the name lost world so that is why Gaia are not mentioned

2.Sonic can not remember because it was a long time ago

3.Some games that are not mentioned in the big nine games are not canon until stated the nine games are

sonic 1,2,3 the adventure series heroes basically all the ones mentioned in generations and the ones mentioned in the games in generation are canon until stated in a game or by sega so all the other ones with green hill are not canon.

    4. Eggman could have easily gotten them from space considering he is quite lonely.

    5. Sonic boom sucks its not even made by sega so you can not fault sega for that one sonic 06 on the other hand...

Speaking of Sonic canon, during an interview, Sega "Community Manager" Aaron Webber stated there are two planets, a human world that is Earth, and Sonic's World. So, it looks like Sonic X actually IS canon to the games. This is the second time the fact that there is two planets has been brought up, the first time was in a foreign interview with Iizuka, however, that time might've been a mistranslation. However, there is little doubt now that Sonic X is canon.

The weird thing is, we also have quotes from people at Sega that implies the classic games are mostly non-canon. Only Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Knuckles, and CD happen, and they likely happened differently (No Super Emeralds, only seven Chaos Emeralds, Alter Emerald Zone replacing Hidden palace Zone, etc.) One fan theory is that Sonic Generations is about dimensional travel, rather than time travel, and the classic games happen in a parallel universe.

@superadam: Sonic X is NOT canon to the Sonic games. It's a separate canon.
