Smallville: The Comic -  a 64-Page Special! - produced between the first and second seasons of the WB series. Smallville presents the high school years of  Clark Kent (Tom Welling) through a more contemporary Dawson's Creek / The X-Files lense, focusing on the relationship between Clark, Lana Lang (Kristen Kreuk) and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum). Clark is hopelessly in love with Lana, who is dating Whitney Fordman (Eric Johnson), quarterback for the Smallville Crows football team. Another focus of the series, are the meteor rocksKryptonite - that covered the crash of the rocket that brought young Kal-El from Krypton to the Jonathan and Martha Kent (John Schneider and Annette O'Toole). Smallville turns out to be both "meteor capital of the world" and "meteor freak central". Clark gets help against the "meteor freaks" from friends Pete Ross (Sam Jones III) and Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack). The series also focuses on the strained relationship between Lex and his father, Lionel Luthor (John Glover); and how Clark and Lex progress toward their destinies, as hero, villain and ultimately adversaries.
