A stereotypical New York mobster, Slade's position in the underworld is as the henchman for The Fixer. It is revealed in "The Origin of Daredevil" that Slade shot and killed Battlin' Jack Murdock. Later in the issue, Slade is hunted down by Daredevil in a subway station and deceived into admitting his crime to the police.
Slade first appears in Daredevil #1 (April 1964) and was created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett.
In the Daredevil film Slade's character is replaced by a young Wilson Fisk.
