Sir Francis Varney was an English gentleman and the culmination of Draka's attempts to create an advanced un-dead and a son. Draka took centuries of experiments and study with the help of many sapient people to create Varney, a creature superior to the other un-deads, with the ability to mesmerize people and create his own un-deads. But, unfortunately, the weakness to sunlight wasn't completely overcome, in fact Varney suffered and burned without dying when exposed to the light. Even the quantity of fluid inside him needed to create other vampires was limited. After some time, Varney rebelled to Draka and started to hate him. He tried to commit suicide many times, but always failed. He then started to wander and murder, in search of amusement and a way to be like his "father", chased by Draka, who wanted to kill him, because he considered him as a threat for mankind and the Masters of the Night. After a century and a long story that involved Lord Byron, John Polidori and others, Varney took courage and dived inside Mount Vesuvius, finding his long-awaited death.
