Comics often see major shake ups to add excitement and suspense to stories. One of the biggest prior to DC's 'The New 52' was the Green Lantern Corps' greatest enemy becoming a member. Sinestro was said to be one of the greatest Lanterns until he decided to take matters into his own hands. Seeing his position and power as a chance to rule over his planet, he was soon kicked out of the Corps and banished to the anti-matter universe for his subordination.

With the power of a yellow power ring, Sinestro faced off against the Green Lanterns and its newest member, Hal Jordan time and time again. In some ways, Sinestro and Hal were alike. Both were powerful Lanterns with a strong will and a level of stubbornness that would have them stand up against the Guardians of the Universe on several occasions.

Despite their years of differences and conflicts, Sinestro and Hal formed an alliance during the War of Light and Brightest Day. During the War of the Green Lanterns, it came down to Hal trying to defeat the rogue Guardian Krona. When Hal executed a fatal finishing blow, Sinestro found himself chosen to become a Green Lantern despite his protests and Hal Jordan was stripped of his power ring by the Guardians. Now that Sinestro is unwillingly a Green Lantern once again, what does this mean for the future of the Corps? Be sure to read Green Lantern #1 as there will be some minor spoilers below.

== TEASER ==
No Caption Provided

Being a Green Lantern isn't something you can volunteer for. Each power ring chooses its bearer based on their worthiness. During the War of the Green Lanterns, Mogo, under the influence of Krona, dispatched several new rings for new Lanterns to serve as pawns of Krona. In the aftermath, several took it upon themselves to relinquish their rings, knowing they were not truly worthy of the honor. If it's simply a matter of removing the ring, how come Sinestro is unable to do the same?

No Caption Provided

The Guardians of the Universe have spent some time trying to make sense of Sinestro being chosen once again. They are fully aware of the evils he's committed but are willing to accept that it must be fated that he was chosen. Ganthet is the only one that realizes the absurdity of allowing this to happen.

After some deliberation, Sinestro is allowed to leave Oa and protect his sector. The willingness of the Guardians to allow him to leave with perhaps the most powerful weapon in the universe is questionable. Have they finally lost their sense of right and wrong? Sinestro has abused the power before and, if anything, has become even more deadly than before. Sinestro hates the Green Lanterns. They might want to hold onto the idea that this was set in motion in order to offer him redemption but they are risking the lives of many in allowing this to play out.

Sinestro first act as a Green Lantern was to check up on his homeworld of Korugar. Will we see a repeat of the past? Can Sinestro resist the temptation of using his power ring to demand the planet lives under his leadership?

The bigger question is what will happen with the Sinestro Corps. We've seen the covers to issues #2 & 3 that show Sinestro at odds with them. The Sinestro Corps was created out of its hatred for the Green Lanterns. Now its founders is back to wearing green. Sinestro could use this opportunity to give his Corps an inside edge in finally defeating the Green Lanterns. Because the members of the Sinestro Corps aren't necessarily the most rational minds in the galaxy, will they just see Sinestro's new wardrobe as the ultimate betrayal. It would be easy to imagine a power struggle as someone else fights to take control of the Corps.

No Caption Provided

Sinestro will always do what he sees fit. There must be a reason that Sinestro was chosen to wear a green power ring once again. Despite Ganthets protests, the Guardians might actually be onto something. We've seen the ultimate villains turn over a new leaf and begin fighting for good. But if issue #1 shows us anything, Sinestro is still as deadly as ever, only now he has a green power ring to add to his arsenal.

Sinestro won't want to be a Green Lantern even if he did decide he wanted redemption. On the flip side, Hal Jordan wants nothing more but to be a Green Lantern once again. The Guardians are strongly against this as well. If Sinestro and Hal form an alliance once again to each get what they desire, what will that mean for the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps? Having two of the universe's most strong willed individuals work together could mean great things or it could result in the end of things as we know them.

I hope he doesn't destroy the GLC.

But, if he were to brutally murder the Guardians, I wouldn't mind.

I think its either going to end in the whole corps going down. Or Sinestro will end up killing Hal. Or Hal will become a rogue lantern. Or something I'm not expecting. This is exciting.

Sinestro doesn't hate the Green Lanterns, he just hates the Guardians. But everything he's done has been for the Corps. He said it himself. He even smiled when being taken to his execution because he won. The Green Lanterns are allowed to kill. That was the entire reason he formed the Sinestro Corps.

Also, the bigger element of surprise, and possibly the reason he can't remove the ring, is the fact that the ring chose him after Mogo was dead. Mogo was the one who guided the rings before, so how could a ring choose him after Mogo was dead?

QTF. I think Johns' larger story line is exactly about this and Sinestro is not alone in thinking Smurfs are incompetent. Dark times are coming for the Guardians

Truly I see this as an opportunity on Sinestro's part to either really do the right thing for once...or to finally have the edge to bring down the GL Corps once and for all. Given Sinestro's track record and hatred for the Guardians, as well as his past shenanigans, I'm inclined to believe that he will try to do something negative with his current status as a GL. He's just too much a manipulative power seeker to want to just do the right thing for once. To do so would interfere with his wish of "order' in the universe that he has time and time again wished for, so to speak. And even if he does want to do the right thing, how long will it be until he starts to grow lackluster and bored with his GL position and start to yearn for his old power wielding days once more? How long until he really does want to rule over Korugar again with an iron fist? How long until he watches the Sinestro Corps members doing what he thinks in his heart is right? It's just a matter of time that unfortunately I think will fester into something worse. Either Hal or those Guardians will finally have to kill him, or else. Sinestro is powerful...sometimes TOO powerful, as evidenced by other stories I have commented on (I.E. The Weaponer). It will be interesting to see what happens down the line in the GL titles then with this guy.

I'm less concerned about Sinestro destroying the Corps than I am about the Guardians doing that. Their behavior has been appalling and they have shown that they really don't need to be trusted, and aren't worthy of the trust that the Corps puts into them as leaders. With the exception of Ganthet of course. Sinestro being a GL won't last very long. The Guardians scare me more.

Prepare for the unexpected! However this turns out it's gonna be siick, but i definitely see an alliance between Hal and Sinestro happening again soon, and that's probably how Hal will get his ring back too.

The guardians' decisions are becoming rediculous. If Sinestro stay as a GL for any prolonged amount of time, I think it only fair for Hal to gain power as a Sinestro ring bearer, he's had the whole parallax experiences before, it could work.

I used to read the main title up until the relaunch. As soon as I found out Hal was out and Sinestro in, it takes them back to square one. Even if continuity still counts with the Lanterns (even though it can't because other heroes were involved with Blackest Night) it makes Hal normal and Sinestro the lead Lantern. Worst of all, the Guardians are still secretive little shits and haven't changed and probably won't.

The title is too cyclical for me to really care anymore.

The first issue was great. I'm amongst the people who are thrilled with Sinestro becoming a Green Lantern again. Sinestro is amongst my favorite characters in the GL mythology; he shares the top spot with Guy Gardner. Hal is a close #3.

After reading the issue myself, I have concluded two things

1. Sinestro actually does not give a kark about the "sinestro corps".  They were a means to an end and they may have now outlived their usefullness to him.

2. The Guardians are "up to something".  We all know they are sneaky little sons of murglaks and this is no different.  They are intentionally setting Sinestro loose with a power ring exactly because of what they expect... or hope...  he will do.

This is idiotic. Hal without a ring? Thousands of people who campaigned to see him get one back, will check in...then purchases will drop. I certainly won't buy a single title - even though I love the sinestro character. This is beyond stupid.

The article says "subordination" instead of "insubordination". Thus it claims he was punished for adhering to a hierarchy. Heh.

I've noticed Comic Vine needs an editor. If they have an editor, they need to add that individual to the unemployment line. So often, there are unchecked mistakes that just make it difficult to take these articles seriously.

At some point... SOON... the guardians are going to be usurped by the corps.

There is no other possible outcome.

The question is when will the GLs do it... or when will Hal Jordan do it?

I've been saying this for a while. They've screwed up too many times so eventually the corp needs to tell them they're taking things over.

I say have the thick-skinned Guardians eliminated, and have Ganthet start up a group of them that actually CARE. This whole situation with the Guardians in that issue reminds me of our President's current situation with the Republicans.

@obscurefan: I agree, Obscure. Especially since they fail to see how flawed they are. I suspect that something to the extent of what you mean is gonna be a focus in "New Guardians" with Kyle and members of other Corps setting themselves up as a group like what Hal, Larfleeze, Sinestro, Carol, Saint Walker, Indigo-1, and Atrocitus were in Brightest Day and War of the Green Lanterns.

Whaaat?! Kill the Guardians! Why would anyone want to think such a thing? Think of all the good they've done. Krona - hence the Anti Monitor and infinite crisis, plus the latest War of the Lanterns, the crazed Manhunters now thrown in, Sinestro, Parallax (thanks so very much G's), Nekron and the black lanterns, the whole war of lights thing and banishing their best Lantern. Hmmm. Can we roast marshmallows at the pyre? The blue guys are in SERIOUS need of Dr. Phil!

We already saw Hal wearing and using the power of a Sinestro Corps Ring during War of the Green Lanterns and before that, he was possessed by Parallax, the universal embodiment of fear, TWICE... do you really want to see him go down that road again? The Guardians are idiots... they need to be taken down once and for all.
