    Sinestro Finally Gets a Book

Don't get me wrong. I was absolutely ecstatic when I heard the news that Sinestro would be getting his own title - but I, along with many other fans, feel that this decision was about 7 years too late. Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk, DC! Also, it's been a while since I last wrote a review, and I thought that this issue would be a good one for me to review, as I'm a particularly big lantern fan.

As always, this review may (or may not) contain spoilers, so continue reading at your own risk.

    Solid Start

So this first issue essentially deals with Sinestro coming out of his self-imposed exile and attempt to regain control of the Sinestro Corps - not really a spoiler if you think about it. The fact that we get a book centred around Sinestro is a major plus point, as he's largely had to share the spotlight with Hal Jordan throughout major story arcs of yester-year.

The main plot-line is perhaps a bit generic (more on that below), but it's definitely sound enough to reel me in for further issues.

    Predictable and Unclear

My main problem was that the story was very predictable. Who else other than Lyssa Drak would attempt to persuade Sinestro out of exile? Why else would Sinestro come out of exile other than something related to Korugar/Korugans? Of course these are topics that would inevitably have to be included in Sinestro's return as corps leader - but I felt that there was not time in building this up, as all the above happened in a single issue. There could have been more time spent developing this and more time spent exploring Sinestro's pain and reluctance to rejoin the corps.

Additionally, there is a lot of ambiguity regarding the current of status of Parallax and how this issue relates to Sinestro's appearance in Forever Evil. I could write a bunch of issues here, but I'm sure readers would already have a few questions of their own.

    Art

Great detail and colouring done, but the character proportions looked a bit off at times. I particularly liked the use of yellow/gold throughout this issue, and am eager to see much more of it as subsequent issues are published.

    Overall

I'm happy with this first issue, and hope that later issues build on this and develop the characters further. Ideally, I'd like to avoid any more predictable outcomes, and hope that this book goes down it's own path and not follow the same themes as other lantern books. This book needs to make Sinestro's golden light shine!

    7/10
