why put a mask over the face of a minority?

seems iffy

after reading issues 13 and 14 i think he is a terrible character. he looks like a cheap knock off of kickass. the character also seems like a flat 2d reckless jerk basically the worst parts of hal and guy. i am also very sick of how unsubtle comics are doing diversity for diversitys sake... i am supprised they did not make him a gay arab muslim gunweilding criminal just to tick an extra diversity but wait they did that to allan scott last month ! the last thing we need is a new gl and why wait 13 issues after a company reboot to introduce them. if the character had to be muslim then i would have prefered it to be a female chatacter as i think that would have been more akin to the seminal nature of adams lantern/arrow run that challenged the current lanterns issues around race. i feel that a female muslim lantern would be able to explore gender identity in relation to the conflict between muslim and western cultures.... i mean marvel have been doing this thing quite well is it not time dc caught up in a non sterotypical way? i personally hope the new lantern gets killed off as i think he i a mistake... and besides the earth has 6 billion people why do all green lanterns have to be american?

My guess is Simon Baz will end up where Vibe will end up after 1 year.

I love him. I'm still a bit stunned that a white man managed to make an intelligent statement about the treatment of Muslims post 9/11, and in general, he's an interesting character, who manages to feel like he doesn't exist just for racial diversity.

Wow, this thread is still going. So what about now? We have seen Simon in action for a good bit of issues and is there anything that you enjoy more than past GL, anything that upsets you? Thoughts?

Michael Jai White should play him if ever. But in other news, I wanna see more issues before I pass judgment. He's shaping up to be good, although what happens to him when Hal comes back. =/

Johns is mixed and apparently has some experience with it so that explains it.

I like the fact that the gun actually helped him seeing as he couldn't harm Sinestro with his own ring.

@teamunitednerds: uh.....johns is Lebanese. That's why he created Baz.

I noticed several people saying Simon Baz is the 5th GL from earth. I just wanted to mention that he is the 6th.

@buckshot: technically he was. He used to steal cars and go joyriding. He stopped after his sister was killed.
