    Origin

Sherry Birkin is the daughter of Dr Anette Birkin and Dr William Birkin, two highly intelligent and leading specialists in biotechnology. Her parents both worked for the large multinational corporation Umbrella, researching and developing biological weapons. Both were situated and based in the Arklay Laboratory located near Raccoon City. William Birkin was leading scientist in the field of T-Virus research, and so an important figure within Umbrella Corporation. As a young child, although fond of her parents, their busy work schedules would mean some distance between them, though both her parents would seem to genuinely care for her as well.

At some point the Birkin family would relocate to he Raccoon City Underground Laboratory, a larger, more advanced facility than the Arklay Laboratory. This is where William would work on the G-Virus. Unfortunately due to her fathers plans to sell the G-Virus to the United States Military, a series of events and consequences would play out, leading Umbrella to attempt to assassinate William. William resorting to injecting himself with a strain of the G-Virus mutating and losing much of his humanity, and more catastrophically a strain of the t-virus would enter Racoon City's water supply, infecting much of its citizens and causing a zombie outbreak. Annette having inside knowledge would do her best to warn and alert her then 12 year old daughter, to leave school, acquire an important locket at their home and then to seek safety at the Raccoon City Police Department. Sherry would follow her mothers instructions, gathering the locket, avoiding people, and making her way to the Raccoon City Police Department. Unfortunately her the threat posed by the outbreak was greater than even Annette Birkin could have predicted and the police station was also quickly overrun by zombies as well. Sherry would use her small stature to hide in vents and sub rooms, doing her best to survive.

Help would arrive, in the form of various individuals there to also survive and fight back against the zombie outbreak, Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and Ada Wong in particular.
