    Issue Recap

Shadowman #1 opens up 'some time ago' in the home of Josiah Boniface, the current Shadowman, and a pregnant Helena LeBreton. Emotions run high as Josiah must leave to fight Master Darque and they both know deep down inside... he's not coming back. Josiah gives her an Amulet for protection and leaves to fight Darque with help from Dox and the Abettors. During the fight, Shadowman and Darque, who seemingly is controlling the situation, cross over to the mysterious Deadside together. Helena leaves New Orleans the next day and goes on the run for the next 10 years during which she has a baby boy named Jack. When Jack is 10, she gives him the Amulet for protection and then right after that, she dies in a car accident.

Fast forward 10 more years and we find Jack Boniface working at the Museum of Culture. Enter the private eye, Dave Burke, with information about Jack's parents that he dug up from the New Orleans parish. After 2 years of searching, the only thing that he was able to find was that Jack's parents were charged, though never proven, for murder, theft, and arson. In a spite of anger, feeling that he was lied to, he threw his father's Amulet of protection into the river.

Meanwhile, the evil demon Mr. Twist has been sent to find and destroy Jack before he is able to assume the role of Shadowman. Upon arrival, Mr. Twist has viciously murdered multiple patrons at the local watering hole and when two poor unsuspecting cops arrive, Twist possesses them using 'flesh of his flesh', forcing them to help locate Jack.

Back at the Abettors HQ, Dox and his new protégé Alyssa sense the return of the Shadow Loa to be imminent. Dox knows it is imperative to search out the new 'host' and find him before the Brethren do.

On the other side of town, the possessed cops, the now evil agents of Mr. Twist, have found Jack and are taking him out to the woods to kill him. As soon as Jack got the chance, he tried to make a run for it. He didn't make it very far before they shot him in the back. But before he could die, the non-amulet wearing Jack Boniface was consumed by the Shadow Loa voodoo spirit and becomes Shadowman.

"Apart we are lost...Together we are Found... Together we are One." -The Shadow Loa
