When Thieves Fall Out...
The other members of the Secret Society of Super-Villains confront Sinestro and The Wizard for their inaction in the battle last issue. The group comes to blows (and Hi-Jack is teleported to limbo) but Sinestro and Wizard are able to make their escape. Grodd and Captain Comet attempt to follow but Manhunter holds them back and reminds everyone they need to focus all their energy on preparing for Darkseid's invastion.
Meanwhile above San Francisco, Star Sapphire is leading Green Lantern to Darkseid's secret underground lab. Green Lantern doesn't completely trust that she isn't leading him into a trap, but he's willing to investigate further. Before he can follow Star Sapphire into the lab, Green Lantern is attacked by Mantis. Unaware of Mantis' power parisitism, Green Lantern blasts the villain with his power ring. Mantis absorbs all the power Green Lantern has to offer, leaving the hero in a dazed state. He exclaims he's bursting with enough power to rival Darkseid himself and that soon he'll even surpass him. Darkseid appears behind Mantis and confronts his servant over his treasonous words.
Sinestro and the Wizard return to Sinister Citadel, hoping to contact Darkseid. Instead they run into Funky Flashman, who proposes he should be their publicity agent.
Kalibak follows Star Sapphire into the hidden lab. Grodd and Kalibak engage in a viscious battle that takes the two out of the lab and across the city. Aboveground, Mantis attempts to destroy Darkseid with his stolen power only to find the god of evil is immune. Mantis cowers before Darkseid and explains that he was intoxicated with power. Darkseid tells him it's a shame he wasted his power on mutiny now that he has real need of them. The Apokolips lord points to the form of the Black Racer in the sky coming toward them.
