The Six vs. Everyone, no really, EVERYONE
This is how you end a book.
With the upcoming relaunch of the DCU, a handful of books got the axe, I can't think of another book that will be sorely missed as much as Secret Six. Though writer Gail Simone reported that Dan Didio was optimistic about the book's chances of coming back after some time off, the fact is, this was the final issue of the on-going series, and that sucks.
But, if you're going to end a book like Secret Six, you have to do it right, and Simone did just that. Essentially, this is a story about the Six pulling a Thelma and Louise and going out in a blaze of glory. Bane's plans to storm Gotham come to an abrupt halt when Penguin secretly notifies a few people of their plans. Who shows up to stop the Six? Oh, just about everyone... no, seriously, everyone shows up. Look at the character list. Members of the Birds of Prey, JSA, JLA, JLI, Teen Titans and Batman Inc all show up to face down the Six, which in turn, gives them the recognition they deserve. Booster Gold of all people questions why they need so many people to face Catman and his crew, but finally, the DCU shows how serious they must take the Six, since after all, they have taken down the Secret Society, as well as bringing characters like Wonder Woman to their knees. Hell, ever Superman and his Superpals show up. That's how bad ass the Six have become.
Outnumbered, the Six have one option, go down fighting, and to help facilitate that, Bane has brought some venom for them all to take. Is it a fight they can win? No. But they all agree not to kill each other one last time, and fight to the very bitter end.
The Six was a team of losers, that's for sure, but if this is losing, you can sign me up for much, much more if the team ever gets another chance.
