There's been a lot of praise over the latest issue of BATMAN. And not just from Comic Vine. Death of the Family is continuing like a runaway train. In our five-star review, one of the "bad" things about the issue was the following:

Batman punches a horse. But maybe he did it with such precision and in just the right spot as to not injure it.

Here is the scene in question:

Animal cruelty is not a funny thing. Yet Scott Snyder took this opportunity to display some. As I mentioned in the review, perhaps Batman is just such a skilled fighter, the punch merely stunned the horse instead of injuring it. He did ride upon the horse through Arkham Asylum immediately afterwards.

But that wasn't the only bit of horse cruelty in the issue.

Later, while riding the horse, Batman comes up against Mr. Freeze. Freeze...freezes the horse and shatters it, resulting in the horses death.

If THAT wasn't enough, the writer took his hatred of horses even further. As caught by this Tumblr post, Snyder actually went to Amazon.com and wrote a review for this shirt:

What does all this mean? Does Scott Snyder really hate horses or is this just a joke? We tried getting a reply from Scott but have yet to receive a response.

I love this man.

This is hilarious, I mean Scott's hatred of horses, not animal cruelty, but I mean Scott is probably joking. Right? I mean we are talking about the man who wrote created a much darker and cruel Joker that has caused many issues for the Bat Family. Seriously, he comes up with that stuff?(I mean I do like it) However, Scott's amazon comment probably solidifies his "joking" nature. All and all, Scott is amazing at what he does.

I didn't mind him punching horses in the actual,it was so random and thus hilarious but Snyder's comment,assuming it's Snyder which I sincerely doubt is sooo weird.

I'm an animal lover. Have two cats that are like my own kids. That being said I've always hated horses. They terrify me. And living in Kentucky they're literally everywhere.

Don't forget the time he had Joker shoot a horse in Arkham too.

I love horses. Used to ride, own, train, and show horses. I was a little shocked at those scenes in #16, but I loved them and thought they were really cool. That was just a plain awesome usage of Mister Freeze's powers. As for Scott on Amazon, that was either not him or he was being sarcastic. Either way, it was f****n hilarious. Beautiful shirt though, my mom is the one that got me into horses. She used to ride them as well. They're her favorite animal and her favorite color happens to be purple. This would be perfect for her!

Animal cruelty is a funny thing when it's fictitious animal cruelty, doubly so for cartoony, drawn animal cruelty in a superhero comic book.

I'm sure he hates animals no more than he does people considering all of the ways people have been killed in his stories.

Back in my days batman liked horses...

I have a horse. He's name is Scotty. I had a chat with him about batman #16 and tell you the truth, he doesn't mind the cruelty against the horses. Scotty understands Scott Snyder anger and frustration against the horses, as himself has faced others of his kind that are, well, simply A-holes. Simply put, Scotty concludes that somewhere in Mr. Snyder's life, he must have faced a horse that harassed him to pure hatred, which led him to be psychopathic against horses.

I was very enlightened by my horse's or Scotty's perceptive on the sudden acting out by Scott Snyder on horses.

Oh, Scotty thought the image of a horse on fire was simply very moving. Amazing!
