Wow Lobdell is an idiot. Here is an idea if people on the internet are bad mouthing your stories why not attempt to prove them wrong with writing a good Superman story..... Oh yeah its because you can't and its the new 52 so Superman will always be crappy.

Good stuff Tony. I like how Scott mentioned that no matter how great a persons intentions are, or how many accomplishments they have, people will alaways be suspicious pf their motives and some will just hate. Never been a huge fan of Lobdell's stuff but I have only read a small portion of his work, I should heck out his read Hood run.

Coming from someone with a Harley Quinn avatar. Was that you protesting the New 52 at Comic-Con two years ago?

His stories are subjective. I happen to think he has one of the best imaginations in writing. Maybe his execution isn't always amazing, but he has great ideas and has his own special unique tone. Maybe it isn't for everyone, but nothing is for everyone. Even that is subjective.

Before you start dissing people, please realize that you're only making yourself look bad.

I've been a fan of Lobdell through and through, the guy's never really let me down. Granted, the guy drops subplot hints like a tree drops leaves but I kind of like that, it gives me something to look forward too. Wish I could pick up the newest Superman issue now but oh well, I can wait.

@knightofthechronicle: First off I will say my comments were really harsh but it was how I felt when i typed them. I will make that bet with you, Superman Unchained has the best chance of being the only good Superman book of the new 52 (Sorry Morrison). I just hope Snyder does not try to drag out the stories to be big cross over events that is not what Superman needs right now. They need to reestablish him as the biggest hero in the DCU and have to rebuild the relationships he has with his supporting cast.

I personally do not mind Lobdell's stories. They're not bad at all, just not bombastic when they need to be. Superman has been a subpar book about an over par character, not good. If Scott gets some fine tuning, maybe we'll have a good year.

@br_havoc: Yeah, Havoc it wasnt really what you said, it was just how you said it. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, so its all cool there, it was just the tone. As for me, Im sticking with DC till the end if it ever comes to that. DC characters are just icons for people, and I think they need to stay that way. I do have some problems with DC but it deals with their Editorial, and their trade schedule, but I ignore it for the characters

So far, for me, in the New 52, Lobdell has written the better Superman stories thus far. (Morrison is kinda hit and miss, imo). I think he has managed to save the title. And he also managed to develop Supes relationship among other Super titles which is great. Plus I think he has a lot more in store for us.

@titantempest: Yeah I understand that. I can relate to your passion for DC with me its hard to stick around I keep reading many of there comics month to month wishing they will get better but they simple do not. The direction of the new 52 now is just not adding up and all the promises they made before it started they have not really kept. I just wish they would start treating Superman as there flagship hero like he is and with putting people like Lobdell on a Superman book its like saying well we are fine with him being average.
Again this is my opinion so feel free to agree or disagree.

Not overly surprised he's playing the Raven story in some form of opposite to the original, it's not terribly original, atm it's definitely being very poorly handled and Barrows is so far third choice for me when it comes to Trigon.

It's just irritating he feels the need to mess around with these things, since quite often the fans of the old version will have a certain level of fondness for the origin, because they are the principle the characters work and behave on.

LOL. you probably don't read superman comics at all but Morrison's Superman is kicking so much ass and Lobdell's work is one of the better superman books for the last few years.

I question how much superman u have read.

When did the comments to this video turn into "do you like Lobdell?" posts. I'd think the important part of this interview is what he talks about. If you guys don't like Lobdell, go make a forum post. Is it really appropriate to talk about your feelings (good or bad) here?

@sethysquare: Ok dude I read a lot of Superman comic or at least I did. When it comes to Morrison's Action Comics this is the man that wrote All Star Superman one of the best Superman stories I have ever read. So my expectations were very high when I went into that book. Action is still well written but it is over shadowed by many other works by Morrison and is no were near the same level as All Star. As for Lobdell's Superman if you like great more power to you. This book is not for me it is written like a 90's comic and Lobdell like the other writers that were on this book have failed to establish any relations between Clark and his supporting cast (Lois,Jimmy characters like that). H'el on earth was not good IMO and was really just used as a sales tool. So you want to question how much Superman I have been reading I guess I have to question how much Superman have you read that was not made in the new 52 era?

@doordoor123: One the best imaginations in writing? Seriously you have grossly over exaggerated Lobdell. He is a company man that is the only reason he gets work, his writing has always been mindless if you want flashy comics with simple stories then Lobdell is your man.

@sethysquare: Lobdell's book is one of the best Superman titles in years, what about James Robinson's small run that was great. How do you call something better or best in years when there has been 6 issue so far.If it was not for the art people would not defend Superman as a book.

I personally really like Lobdells work. I loved his Red Hood run, I thought Superboy was good, Teen Titans has yet to disappoint me, and I think his take on Superman has been, for New 52 standards, amazing. I don't think he's the best by any means, but I do think he's pretty good. But hey, to each his own, right?

And who are you to say that? Are you some sort of award-winning critic? If not, then I don't understand why you're making such bold statements.

It is subjective.

You obviously have a pre-conceived notion of his writing because he is VERY imaginative. And he isn't a "Breaking Bad" kind of writer or "The Wire" kind of writer. He is more of a "Chuck" kind of writer. Not everyone is going to like it because it is so unique, but the people that do like it really like it. You're obviously not one of the people who like it.

You're calling his writing mindless, but maybe it is the other way around. Maybe you aren't being mindful enough while you're reading it.

I'm studying psychology at the moment and I think more people should study it. There aren't enough people that think when they talk or make accusations.

So he's not allowed to have his own opinion on Lobdell? He has to be a highly decorated literary critic in order to be able to dislike a comic book writer? Yes, all stories are subjective, but that would mean that people should be able to dislike his books. Maybe not everyone likes that he changes every fundamental thing about characters they used to know, or maybe they don't like that a title is really just endless crossovers, and maybe they don't like childish dialogue. Some people do, some people don't. Just because you are supporting Lobdell doesn't mean you have any more right to attack his critics than they have to attack you.

I find it hilarious that without fail whenever there's a story about Lobdell anywhere it always turns into a huge "Lobdell sucks" vs "Lobdell is god" fight. I do not understand the obsession.

Hey, I never said I was attacking anyone. And I agree that everyone has a right to their opinion. Not everyone has the right to a valued opinion though. I'm just seeing if you guys are just bashing or if you actually have a valid argument in your opinion.

FYI being imaginative isn't opinion-based. You could clearly see all of the changes that he's made with the characters and how he uses them.

And yes, I agree. This is hilarious.

By telling him that his opinion isn't valued, that's kind of an attack. Or at least an insult. How is his opinion any less valuable than yours?

Changes in who the characters are and how they are portrayed and act isn't necessarily being imaginative. In some cases it could probably just be considered inconsistent and lazy. I wouldn't describe the way he completely re-wrote Tim Drake or Cassie Sandsmark to be completely different characters as "imaginative." I don't want to join the anti-Lobdell club, but you're being just as ridiculous as anyone else.

ITT: Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got them and they all stink.

They stink almost as bad as the fetid writings of Scott Lobdell who continues to ruin characters people actually enjoyed. Tim, Connor, now it sounds like Raven's on his hit list. If it were any other writer with talent and respect for the roots of a character (wanting to update them and change them, while having them remain true to their core) I'd expect that he would be starting her off similar to her red skinned, evil persona in Peréz's run, only to bring her around to her original characterization after a face-off.

I agree with a lot of the theories CV comes up with regarding titles and major players in the comic universe. The fact that SUPERMAN would lose WONDER WOMAN to ORION is ridiculous. Hearing it debunked was good news.

I had a bit of a chuckle then. Scott Lobdell's got a pretty cool sense of humour (or maybe he's just eccentric ... either way, he's a cool geek)

Keep up the good work, Scott. Looking forward to the Kal el of Krypton storyline!!

Can make sense, but now the thing is SM/WW and will be for a time. Trinity Wars ¬¬. I agree with you that Orion and WW make a better pair. Maybe in the future, you never know with DC.

Funny as in slap her ass and be a sexist pig funny. Yeah, sure. That's always funny. Lobdell's funnier than Azzarello though.

I'm glad to hear that debunked too. But I have to say I want to see how Lobdell does address this involvement as he calls it. Is he going to treat Diana like a piece of meat as well? You know, Wonder Woman is suddenly just used to either break Trevor's heart or get her ass slapped by a jerk or now maybe some time wasting for Superman. His Clark so far seems to spend a heck of a lot of his time mooning over Lois Lane so you know as much as I loathe the very idea of Diana with that dickish Orion...if Clark ( DC ) is using Diana for triangle nonsense...then the faster Diana dumps him the better. I like Lobdell's Superman. It's got fresh ideas and Clark when he is not mooning like a fool, is a witty and confident guy and like sm/ww relationship but as seen in JL, which frankly has been lacking a lot of development. I have yet to see Lobdell write this remotely interesting. WW fighting alongside Superman is what I see all the time and that was all that H'el was about. I don't see why people come here to hate on Lobdell. I am sure half to them don't read his books or even picked up the WW book.

What's so ridiculous about it? I think it makes more sense than SM/WW and it could be funny too

Funny as in slap her ass and be a sexist pig funny. Yeah, sure. That's always funny. Lobdell's funnier than Azzarello though.

...Okay. I'm a girl and would be pretty mad if someone slapped my ass. If he slapped my sister's I'd be mad but it would still be pretty funny. See what I'm getting at? And I've not read enough of either writer to be sure of who's funnier

Oh I'm definitely a Lobdell fan here and it was great seeing him there at Wonder Con as well as a signing event just a few days earlier. I like the direction he's taking the Man of Steel, and find it a good read. Sure, he has his moments that has me scratching my head in frustration, but overall, I enjoy Lobdell.
