    Brief History

Saru-San was the court jester of Attuma. Though a below average, physical specimen, the "mad" jester was quite bright and often had a better understanding of situations than his master. An ability which failed him in his final battle. After ridiculing Doctor Doom as a foppish, cowardly fool, Saru-San was captured by said Latverian. Doom promised to not kill him if the jester struck two of his missiles together. Terrified of Doom by this point, Saru-San complied without thinking. The resulting explosion killed him instantly.

    Creation

Saru-San was created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema in 1968 and first appeared in Sub-Mariner # 4.

    Powers & Abilities

As a Homo mermanus, Saru-San has the sub-mariner physiology common to the Atlanteans and Lemurians. This includes a stronger and more durable physiology than the Homo sapiens, able to withstand the vast pressures of the ocean depths. The average Homo mermanus individual is ten time stronger than their Homo sapiens counterpart and can swim at a maximum speed of 30 miles per hour. Their vision is superior to the Homo sapiens, allowing them to see in the dim light of the ocean depths.  The Homo mermani tend to age slower than their surface counterparts, their average lifespan lasting 150 years.
