    Weird Western Tale

The Awakening Part One was like reading X-Men meets Weird Western Tales, although I never saw Hex or Scalphunter come up against something like Darius...
The comic opens with a gunfighter shooting down townsfolk in a hail of blood `n bullets, leaving the bodies in his wake he jumps on his horse, heading toward the townships of Salem. From his musings, we learn the gunman is tracking a man. A man who `took` his family, his wife and child - and now he wants vengeance.
Now, we`re in the garden of blonde sweetie, Anna, as she hangs out her washing. She`s approached by a mysterious - and vaguely sinister - gentleman, who tells Anna he can help her with her `gifts`. Anna rebukes him, and runs inside the house...
The vengeance-seeking gunman has arrived in town and is having a stand-off with the sheriff...
But, the story`s supernatural element is kicking in elsewhere. It seems the mysterious gentleman has strange hypnotic powers of his own, and is using them on young Jared, Anna`s neighbour...
Jared`s gropings earn him more than a slap...

Trying to avoid spoilers here, but the link between the three main characters involved becomes obvious. The man that the gunslinger is hunting is the same gentleman threatening Anna - who has her own mysterious secrets, the `powers` she possesses.
The story flows a damn sight better than I`m explaining here, and there`s some good dialogue, The Awakening Part One certainly draws the reader into it`s mysteries. Very good artwork by Caio Reis. Anna looks as suitably sexy as any Zenescope heroine and the Jonah Hex-esque gunfight over the first few starting pages is drawn really well...
    Interesting...
    Recommended.
