Where There's A Will...
We take a break from the Alana and Marko story to focus on The Will.
Earlier when visiting the "interesting" Sextillion, The Will came across a young girl, who is being imprisoned as a sex slave. Dark stuff. While trying to hunt down Alana and Marko, The Will has also been trying to find a way to save the young girl. He's a bounty hunter with a heart of gold....and a truth detector cat.
At the end of the last issue we get introduced to Marko's ex, Gwendolyn. Gwendolyn is a bad ass, even without having to fight anyone. After a "red herring" start, The Will convinces Gwendolyn to help him free the girl. She is pretty much able to get the ball rolling with just one phone call. The girl will be transported to a plant, where The Will can pick her up.
Naturally it wasn't an easy send off, and when The Will, Gwendolyn, and Lying Cat go to retrieve the girl, they are ambushed by some Lovecraftian squid guys. We see what The Will can do, and a little magic action from Gwendolyn. We also learn a little as to why the young girl was special, and what part she will play in this series.
Saga is one of the best comics on the market today. It's got great characters, the story while basic, is well told. The Will is sort of set up as a villain. He is hired to hunt Marko and Alana and capture them. A task he still plans on doing. But I don't think he is a completely bad person. Eventually he will come across Alana and Marko, and I will be interested in seeing how this plays out.
It was neat to see The Stalk again, even though she is super creepy looking.
I think next issue we go back to the Marko and his mom hunting down their ghost baby sitter storyline. That's fine, this issue was a good break.
