    Good Old Fashioned Rocketeer Adventures

IDW brings back the Rocketeer with an army of incredible writers and artist. Get ready for some great fun.

    The Good

I like the Rocketeer but I can't say I'm a huge fan. I really enjoyed the movie and even had the theatrical standee (from when I worked in a movie theater). That doesn't mean I don't have incredible respect for the character. If you weren't a fan before, this issue should do the trick.

The first story is written and drawn by John Cassaday. What more needs to be said? It's the perfect tale to start off the issue. Of course I'm thrilled to see a story written and drawn my Mike Allred with amazing colors by Laura Allred (this is the biggest reason I bought this issue). The final story by Kurt Busiek is a touching one with really good art by Michael Kaluta. On top of these three stories, we also have some pin-ups by Mike Mignola and Jim Silke.

The stories all take place in the forties and each have a different appeal. We don't get an origin because it's the Rocketeer. He's a guy with a rocket on his back doing good things. That's all you need to know to be able to enjoy these stories.

    The Bad

Nothing. Maybe I could say it's bad that we won't have the same creators back for issue #2 but there are some more amazing ones lined up. It's always great seeing different takes and interpretations on a character.

    The Verdict

The Rocketeer is back. New and old fans will be able to jump in and enjoy these amazing stories. WIth story and art by John Cassaday, Mike Allred and Kurt Busiek (story only), I would find it hard for someone to want to pass on this. Even if you're not the biggest Rocketeer fan, the story and art will pull you in and provide a fun and entertaining read. IDW has gone all out on getting only the best talent to do justice to the beloved character. If you want to escape from the same comics you read month after month, pick up Rocketeer and enjoy the ride.

Dave Stevens would be proud 0

I was scared I wasn't going to be able to read this, because the world was suppose to end on Saturday (today. yikes!).....so I read it on Friday just to play it safe. If you have been anticipating the Rocketeer, as much as I have, then you were smiling, wide as the grand canyon, after you had it in your hands. The paper is nice and thick. Glossy as well. Alex Ross does a fine job with the cover and really enhances the leather jacket. This issue has various writers and artist who contribute a stor...

      Rocketeer Taking Off 0

The Story: Short stories involving Dave Stevens character The Rocketeer. My Thoughts:IDW has brought together a bunch of talented and respected comic creators for this series, each giving their own respective take on the character. This first issue of the series is comprised of three short stories. The first story is written and drawn by John Cassaday with colors by Laura Martin. Cassaday pits the Rocketeer against Maroni and his men who are holding Betty captive. This was good old-fashioned com...
