    Ready For The Big Leagues

    The Story:

Tim Drake buys Bruce Wayne a father's day present which ends up getting smashed during a fight. Dodge forms a team of metahumans to take down Robin for not letting him be his sidekick.

    My Thoughts:

This comic centers around Tim Drake's growth as a hero and an individual. He's taking on more and more responsibility not only as Robin but in his personal life as well. I really enjoyed seeing him grow and mature into the hero he's destined to be.  Adam Beechen handles the writing fairly well for the most part. The only time I had a slight issue with his writing was his dialogue for Batman. Batman sort of felt a little out of character. I know he was just trying to show Batman play the fatherly role which is fine but it felt like he went a little overboard in doing so. Nothing major though.

The metahuman group formed by Dodge is full of D-list characters but they served their purpose and managed to pose somewhat of a threat to Drake when they began to play to their numbers. I like how Robin had an "ace in the hole" as he showed off his skills as a strategist. It was obvious which person on Dodge's team was Robin's ally since there was only one person with a mask covering their face. Nevertheless I enjoyed seeing who it was under the mask coming to Robin's aid.

The art is drawn by Freddie E. Williams II with colors from Guy Major. I like Williams style and he does a pretty good job. At times I wished the tone could have been a little darker considering it takes place in Gotham but then again I know this comic is being marketed to a young audience since Tim Drake is a teenager and part of the Teen Titans. At times I did feel the mood was captured pretty well and there were some nicely designed panels. The art serves its purpose and compliments the story exactly as it should.

Tim Drake fans we'll enjoy this as he begins to transcend into more than just Batman's sidekick. I think this story was a great showcase of Tim Drake's skills as a hero and a strategist. It proves he's ready for "the big leagues" and can hang with the best of them.
