Thors #3 - The Thunder Room

5

Thor and Loki spend some time in the Thunder Room.

Loki has been brought in for questioning into The Thunder Room and Ultimate Thor wants to get down to who and how Beta Ray Bill was murdered. However, the answers he seeks aren't the ones he's going to get.

On the surface, this issue has all the elements of something I normally wouldn't like. It's a whole bunch of Thors, it's a police procedural, and a giant chunk of this book is two people, sitting in a room, talking. However, put all of those things together, and somehow, it becomes the best comic I've read this week. Having Thor interrogate Loki was one of the most intense scenes of the week.

Following this story, which has Thor border-lined obsessed with finding out what happened, makes this a great page-turner. Writer Jason Aaron knows how to engage the reader by delivering some top-notch dialogue. The whole issue doesn't revolve around the interrogation though.

The final chunk of the issue deals with Thor heading to the Deadlands to uncover a few secrets, which we will not reveal here. Aside from the zombies, there's something else Thor has to deal with that reveals a whole heck of a lot about what's been going on with the murder and what's going on with the things in Thor's neck of the woods. It's an ending that really makes you want to keep reading and as much as I want to talk about it, I just can't spoil it.

Both Chris Sprouse and Goran Sudzuka did the art on this issue, along with inkers Karl Story and Dexter Vines and colorists Marte Gracis and Israel Silva. There is a notable difference, here and there, between the art teams, but it's not distracting at all and both styles flow well together. What makes the art really stand out here is the color work, especially during on when we get some clouds and lightning which looks absolutely amazing.

Overall, THORS #3 continues to deliver a great issue in a surprisingly awesome series. The creative team mixes Thor and police procedurals in a way that really works and this book just looks beautiful as well. Easily, this is one of the best books of the week and something you need to check out.
