Red She-Hulk #60 - Hell Hath No Fury, Part Three

4

Things get pretty heavy in this issue of RED SHE-HULK!

The Good

This issue gets really existential in a very interesting way. I definitely went into this issue expecting it to be about She-Hulk fighting other heroes and a lot of action and crazy fights, but that's not what happens. Instead, Jeff Parker seems to have constructed a somewhat Matrix-y type story that really goes in a completely different direction. However, it's not something that comes out of nowhere and there definitely is a lot of set-up to the events that take place in this issue. In this issue readers are introduced to a "super-machine" that is revealed to be the equivalent of what Aaron Stack (Machine Man) would consider a God. Although some of the ideas presented in this issue are a little bit confusing, they're still very interesting.

The story continues to be told from the perspective of the Machine Man who is on the hunt for Red She-Hulk. As he retraces the steps she has taken, Machine Man comes closer to understanding an entity he was previously unfamiliar with, and in turn, gets closer to locating Red She-Hulk. I think the decision to tell the story from his perspective as opposed to Red She-Hulk's perspective is important, and it really adds to the story. It feels a lot more interesting because it allows the reader to learn along with the character -- we don't know anything that Machine Man doesn't know.

The issue is organized well, we pick up where we left off and then we follow Machine Man on his search for Red She-Hulk. The pacing is good and the art, for the most part, is very well executed.

The Bad

I think the cover as well as the end of issue #59 really sets readers up to think that there will be a crazy fight happening between Red She-Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Captain Marvel and Iron Man. The thing is, though, that all these characters appear in this issue very, very briefly. There's no crazy fight that happens between them, and although that's okay, it was something I was sort of looking forward to. Then again, who doesn't look forward to seeing Red She Hulk pummel into other superheroes because, well, she's a Hulk?

The Verdict

I did find some of Machine Man's dialogue to be a little bit obnoxious in this issue; like the scene where he compares himself to Ultron, for example. I think it could have been better executed and less annoying. Aside from that moment, his character is very interesting. You're not supposed to like him (I don't think), and Parker doesn't help you (the reader) to like Machine Man. However, just because he's not likeable doesn't mean he is an impossible character to read, and I think that's important. Although the issue didn't start out with a lot of action, you do, by the end, get a lot of action. I felt it also important to note that the story that is being crafted by Parker is more interesting and a lot deeper than I had originally anticipated, and that makes it a very interesting read.

Really have enjoyed this series and I didn't think I would. Betty Ross has Also rather enjoyed the tie-in to Hickman's SHIELD run.

I love Jeff Parker, especially when he was writing Hulk. I stuck around for RSH to see what would happen. I agree with Sara, I am a little disappointed because this issue was somewhat misleading. I thought that there would have been a throw-down between RSH and the Avengers and I wanted a little girl-on-girl between Captain Marvel and RSH.

I'm curious to see where Jeff is going with this book. Other writers have portrayed RSH as a somewhat "crazy bitch", I'm tired of that because its hard for readers to relate/sympathize. I love Machine Man, he has been great so far, but again Sara is right, wasn't sure where that, "I'm the most advance android ever, bla, bla, bla came from? Jeff Parker hasn't failed us yet, so I'll stick around to see where this goes.

My problem with it was the last page. I mean, was that really necessary for her to be able to do that? I swear, just that and that alone makes me want to drop the book entirely.

I picked up the first two issues but wasn't going to continue. I had to go back to my comic book store for something else and decided to grab this last second. It was a much more interesting story than the previous issues and I will continue to give it a chance. However I didn't care for her

turning into 'ugly red she hulk', I prefer my red she hulk to be the sexy version

I love She-Rulk, in fact much more than Green Jen (gasp, blasphemy) but I miss my Red Hulk stories. The development there. I love Parker's writing, but the last two issues felt like a lot of jumping (although I do love the Epsilon fight at the end of Issue 1). And Betty vs. The Avengers...hmm...where's dad in all this? He can't be just on the side drinking a 10 gallon tank of beer while this is going on, can he?

Although I can guess the new Rulka form is either an homage to Savage She-Hulk, or a further advanced mutation caused by her rage. Like if Rulk lost all of his marbles at one given time and became nothing more than a slavering red animal, he'd turn into that thing, minus the long hair and XXXXXXXXXL cup size.

I really picked this series up because... i have NEVER invested anything in the Hulks expect Bruce Banner and the original Hulk, so i wanted to give it a try now that i had the chance of picking it up when Marvel NOW made it easy for new readers to get into the series. I didnt expect to get hooked but actually Red She-Hulk is way awesome, i liked this issue a lot, and i agree very much on your review Babs! Its a four star comic for me aswell.

I didnt know the She-Hulks could go into savage mode though... thats very freaking cool!

Really? That was my favorite part. Why should it only be the guys who is able to go ape-sh*t crazy? I always hated that the She-Hulks was much, much weaker than the male ones, and had to run around looking pretty.
