Some spoilers below.
The Good
You know that things have gotten really bad when you have to call in the guy you fear most in the entire universe for help. Yet, that has been something of a common theme in the last arc of Fantastic Four and FF. Not too long ago we witnessed the FF team-up with some of their greatest adversaries; going so far as to work alongside the likes of Doctor Doom. If you thought it couldn't get crazier than that, you are quite mistaken.
You know things have gotten really bad when Reed Richards has to open a gate in the universe and call up Galactus for help. Then again, when two individuals have a common enemy, they tend to make an unlikely team-up in order to defeat their foe. That is exactly what happens here. So what could force is greater than Galactus himself? What could destroy all of Galactus' plans?
The pacing in this issue is great. Hickman delivers a clear, concise and exciting story that will have you at the edge of your seat up until the final page. The question remains, what if this plan backfires? What next?
The Bad
Nothing bad here. Really looking forward to the next issue.
The Verdict
This is a very interesting book. Our heroes are not only faced with a huge problem, but they decide on a very unlikely solution to that problem. The question remains, will the plan backfire? I also liked the very brief scene between Johnny and Ben where Johnny says he would much rather be there (witnessing the possible destruction of the earth) than in the negative zone. I think that it will be interesting to see if Hickman delves deeper into the emotional and physical scars that the Negative Zone events may have had on Johnny, and in a way it feels like that is what he is sort of doing here by hinting at that. I felt that the Barry Kitson and Paul Mounts artistic team was perfect for this space adventure. Both artists did a fantastic job. I am definitely looking forward to the next issue.
