Avenging Spider-Man #16

5

Spidey-Ock goes up against a giant spider, and he gets his first team-up with the X-Men!

The Good

Spidey-Ock finds a gigantic spider terrorizing New York City, and it takes the X-Men helping to put it down.

This issue was great at really getting into Spidey-Ock's brain to see how he views this new world, through the eyes of a hero, around him. Writer Chris Yost does an amazing job at really getting into Spidey-Ock's head and letting the reader in on what he's thinking. We get to see how he views the X-Men, which he's never had to deal with before. He goes through each of the X-Men, in his mind and what he knows about them. It was extremely cool to see this moment.

Who would win in a fight, Spidey-Ock or Wolverine? Well, it's answered here. We get to see an awesome fight scene between the two, which almost ends up going two rounds. This is going to be one fight you'll remember, even though it's a bit short.

Paco Medina's art is incredible in this issue. He uses lots of great perspective and his page layouts have fantastic flow. I love the amount of detail he throws into each panel, but he doesn't over-do it. He uses the perfect amount of line work to get the point across.

This is a great and fun one-off story that hopefully will lead to something better. It has a real great ending, and I hope we get a continuation of this in the future.

Finally, we get a very cool scene where Spidey-Ock has to avoid having his mind read by Rachael Summers. Again, it's another really cool looking into Spidey-Ock's thought process, and it all ends with a pretty funny moment at Wolverine's expense.

The Bad

I didn't have any problems with this issue.

The Verdict

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN 16 is a fantastic and super-fun issue. Writer Chris Yost does a great job at diving into the head of Spidey-Ock and how he sees the world. Paco Medina not only does a great job with the art, but he also has some fantastic page layouts. Lastly, the fight between Wolverine and Spidey-Ock is my favorite part of the issue. It was the coolest fight of this week for me.

Overall, I highly recommend this issue.
