For many comic book readers, original comic art is something that is often out of reach. There is something awe-inspiring when viewing the raw art that readers don't often get to see. When reading an actual comic, we sometimes forget the actual process that went into it. That's where books like this come in.

You may have checked out the video look at this already at the top of the page. It's an impressive book with a nice oversized shape. This is the next best thing to getting Red Sonja original art. You'll get a chance to really see the detail in each page.

The book was released back in December by Dynamite Entertainment. The dimensions are 17" x 12" x 1"

The book contains the original art from Frank Thorne during his 1976 run. The pages are scanned from the original source in nice high resolution. You can see the details and corrections that went into each page before they went to print.

To get an idea of the size, we compared it to a regular comic.

You do get a brief bio on Frank and his career. There is also a nice introduction by Roy Thomas, talking about his time working with Frank.

The main thing is the art. Check out some examples of what this really looks like:

The pages are amazing. Even if you're not a huge Red Sonja fan, you'll appreciate the work here plus the history behind each page. This isn't something you get to see everyday.

And of course, Conan even puts in an appearance.

At the end of the book, there's even a cover gallery. You can check out the art, without the cover dressing.

You can order this directly from Dynamite on their online shop. You could also find it other places and possibly your local comic shop. It is a pricey book. It retails for $150.00. That's normal for these sort of releases. It's the best way to get a real sense of the original art. Considering these pages are scanned from the original art from the 70s, you will be impressed. Again, check out the video at the top of the page.

It's a great book to have in your library, especially if you're a Red Sonja or Frank Thorne fan. Having it on your coffee table could be risky since you wouldn't want to risk people ruining it. The over-sized dimensions might make it tricky to put on a book shelf but this isn't a book you'd want to tuck away. It's a book that should be displayed.

I can appreciate paying top dollar for a quality product but this is nowhere near my price range. I don't think I can justify spending $150 on a book. I've purchased art books before but they were in the $30 range.
