Who uses grenades in close-quaters combat?
Ok, so if anybody read my review of issue #10 ( stears at a room only filled with one wind swept tumblweed ) you might remember me having a little mope about how the issue followed on from a Batgirl story and not issue 9, and how in doing so slightly disoriantated me because i dont read batgirl. Issue #11 is as direct a follow up to issue 10 as their ever could be ( unless someone happened to write some issue for <instert-Superpower>-Man/Woman/boy/girl/dog etc.where the fight suddenly went to a parallel univers/time/planet, but in the end everything went back to normal and everyones memories were erraised just for conveniance ). Pru, Tim and Steph are in the alley fighting off Ra's assassins, who were sent to slow Tim down and inform him of all the targets chosen for Ra's revenge. Meanwhile Tam has just saved Vicki Vale from a bullet, and the both of them have entered the Wayn Manor grounds to escape the assassin. As you can probably tell from the cover Batman and Robin appear in this issue, but due to fantastic writing they dont steal the spotlight for a minut ( well Damian tries ). And we also get an appearance from Oracle.
The issue is a goodie, and if you've been following the past 2 story arcs of Red Robin it's a buyer. The art of the issue is perfect, and really depicts the chatacters as they should appear age wise and physic ( ummmm if i spelt that wrong and its read as physic the science i ment it as the body structure e.g. mucles and stuff ) and also give the characters a sence of precence and power. During the encounter with Dick and Damian, Tim and Dick are standing next to one and other and Dick only seems slightly taller than Tim ( as he should ), but the closness in hight also helps show the diffarence in presnace between Batman and Robin, and Batman and Red Robin. It's easy to see that Tim and Dick are parnterns on equil ground compaired to Damian and Dick who have an authority structure with Dick seeming to have authority over Damina. This also ties into the story telling which is really well done. The only other character who seems close to taking the story away from Tim ( closer than the other characters BTW ) is Tam. Batman and Robin are played down as suprise characrters as they should be, and Stephanie is doing what the story has set out for her to do, ( though if it was Bruce Ways batman appearing instead of Dicks, i think the spotlight would have been stolen, so its a greate depiction of the differance between the 2 differant Batmans ).
So all in all it's a good issue to pick up if youve been following the current storyline. We had some nice 2 page spreads and 2/3 stories in the issue that seem to be fleashed out well ( the one with the Bruce imposter guy ( forget his name ) is just confusing to me ) and the build up to the conclusion of the story arcs final issue in #12.
