Despite the Cover, No Character In This Issue Was Named 'Rankorr'

Ok, this issue begins with a nice drawn out transformation of Jack Moore into a Red Lantern. THIS is the kind of thing this series should've had in the first issue or 2. New readers got dumped right in the middle of the cosmic mythology with hardly an introduction. Now, it's issue #6, and we're getting a human transforming into a Red Lantern, and experiencing what they experience for the first time, with the monologues of a human. This is something we need FIVE ISSUES AGO, we don't NEED it now, we're already in or out because we know Red Lanterns or we don't. Don't get me wrong, I loved everything about his transformation and subsequent thoughts, but they're pretty much useless at this point in the story.

Did Milligan take a shot at Alan Moore? "You think you're so special, because you're clever. You ain't clever, Moore. You're just WEIRD." I dunno, I feel like that could be taken that way.

Anyways, the first few issues were hit and miss, mostly due to the same poor planning or stupid decisions; but now there's bad pacing and bad dialogue in the mix. Last issue Atrocitus was focused on going after the supposedly newly living Krona. Bleez got the new Smart Reds out of the Blood Ocean, Atrocitus took his place at the head, and they chanted their sacred oath. Suddenly this issue he's beating her ass for disobedience? What the.... hell? He doesn't even explain what act of disobedience, I mean, she did EXACTLY what he asked, and he was there chanting the oath beside her. Where was the disobedient act? And then when he's questioned, he goes into a big boast about how he's their badass leader who gave them powers and they shouldn't question him... then wonders why he's 'justifying himself' instead of just taking control b y force... Except.... that IS what he was doing.

Maybe he's mad at Bleez for sleazing up the place with her CONSTANT exposed ass shots and enunciated boobs and COME ON! HER NIPPLES ARE VISIBLY THROUGH THE CONTOURS THEY MAKE IN THE SPANDEX! WHAT IS THE NEED FOR THAT!?

And is it Jack Moore, or John Moore? Two characters in one conversation can't seem to get it straight, and don't even correct one another or point out the discrepency. He's just referred to as Jack or John.

And what kind of cop yells 'Taser!' WHILE THEY'RE USING THE TASER? I mean, sure, right before you tell the other cops to taser or something, but the specific panel REALLY made it look like she's yelling it as an attack, like an anime character. (I love anime, but this here is ridiculous.) OH, and then as she dives away HER BOOBS ARE PROMINENTLY DISPLAYED. Fantastic.

    In Conclusion: 2.5/5

Ugh, I want to like this issue so much. The whole intro of Rankorr-

Oh and by the way, Where did the name Rankorr come from!? He's Jack Moore, and is entirely that in this issue. Where does a name like Rankorr even COME from? Not to mention that not a single character USES that name, and he never arrives on Ysmault as the cover suggests.

Ugh. Jack becomes a Red Lantern, and the slow adjustment is GREAT.... for new readers. Something we needed at the beginning. The rest of the issue is filled with, and I'm sorry to say this about Millingan, straight up BAD WRITING. Some weak dialogue, terrible pacing, things that make no sense.... and the sexualization doesn't help.

While the presence of a human Red Lantern is an interesting direction to go in here, it ultimately fails for a number of reasons.  I suppose at its heart the series excels best in a space based environment as what has contributed most to this series thus far is the randomness of the intergalactic worlds, as Atrocitus can be the anti-hero while the writers can make a statement about some other contemporary issue.  Here though that is all thrown out the window and for two reasons.  First of all th...
