Frank vs. Fisk
We finally get a bit of a showdown between Frank Castle and Wilson Fisk! Mamma Cesare (wife of Don Cesare, killed in Ennis’s Punisher Max #1) calls Vanessa Fisk and tells her that she knows what Wilson is up to. Wilson decides to pay her a visit. Meanwhile, the Punisher is starting to feel that the Kingpin smoke might be a decoy for something bigger. All he can find out is that someone is spending a lot of money, and Fisk is involved somehow. He decides to pay Mamma Cesare a visit as well.
Fisk gets there first, and Cesare calls him on his plan to overturn the five families. Fisk says that he has to kill her, but she gets the jump on him with a shotgun. The Punisher enters and confronts them. Cesare angles to shoot him, but she is killed. It is unclear who actually gets her, as Fisk was reaching for his gun. Standing on opposite sides of a wall, Fisk and Frank have a short conversation before Fisk charges through the wall and tackles Castle. They go flying down the stairs as a bullet skims Fisk’s face. The Punisher goes flying through the front door, where a number of gangsters are trying to get into the house. Fisk escapes while the Punisher takes care of them.
Fisk decides it’s time to call in the big guns, so he calls a Mennonite man who has some weaponry hidden at his house. The man has a sick wife and two sons, and it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
This was a pretty decent issue. The art is the same as the past issues: a little above average but fits the story well. The faceoff between the Punisher and the Kingpin is brief, but it should be interesting to see where it goes from here now that they are bringing in the heavy guns.
