    After the success of Superman in 1938, dozens of new publishers sprang up and unleashed hundreds of new super heroes on the comic readers of the Golden Age.  After the end of World War II, however, super heroes fell out of favor with readers.  As quickly as they had arrived, the majority of these heroes and their publishers disappreared.  Copyrights were not protected as adamantly in those days, and many of these characters and their adventures have since fallen into the Public Domain.

    This allows any publisher or creator to use the characters and the original Golden Age material anyway they wish.  AC Comics was one of the first publishers to capitalize on this, by both reprinting Golden Age classics and incorporating these "forgotten" heroes into their new material as well.  Other publishers have also taken to the idea and have created new universes featuring these characters, sometimes focusing on the characters of only one company, and other times picking the best characters from several companies.Which would YOU revive?

    I think Yankee Doodle Jones would be interesting, his weird potential of being both a patriotic superhero, and a sort of Frankenstein Monster has, I think, potential.

    By the way, just recently I have just put up profiles of two other 40s superheroes, Centaur’s The Blue Lady & Nightshade, who have yet to be dusted off and used again.

    For me it would be the Green Lama, but he'd have to get a new moniker .  Seems like a pretty cool character, but seems to be stuck with a stupid name.

    @TerryMcC:
    That is a cool albeit strange choice.

    @Green Skin:
    Green Lama's name is kind of appropriate when you consider his training and Origins in Tibet. The "Green Lama" seems to be a mantle given to a "Chosen One".

    @turoksonofstone:   It is an appropriate name, I'll give ya that.   If I was reviving it I'd want to use a name with more mass appeal.  I just think more people would think of the animal, rather than Tibetan high priest when they hear the name.  Since it's a mantle it'd be pretty easy to do a modern revival.

    @turoksonofstone:   I don't see them on your list and that is probably because it is a team but I want to see a modern version of the Girl Commandos!  The reason is because so many heroes have been revived in the awesome Project Superpowers series'.  But the girls haven't.  What would be better than a all female "super-team"

    Check out The King of Darkness, that is one seriously weird / messed up idea for a superhero.

    Or superjerk, as in one of the only three stories he appeared in, as he is speeding down the road creating total darkness around himself and his car, and sees that one car has almost flipped over running into a telephone pole, his only reaction is is comment "well, I seem to be causing quite a commotion,' and drive on without helping.

    @Manchine:
    A bunch are from the Vine's Public Domain Wiki, I fleeced some from other sources(???), and I am going to make my way through 1,014 golden age books to look for strays, a few of which I have added already.

    @Liberty:
    They are on the list. Alex Ross and Dynamite Combined Mrs.Masque, Lady Satan and The Woman In Red into a team. Marvel should give the Lady Liberators a book and get Adam Hughes and Art Adams to rotate on Art duties. I bet Dynamite revives the Girl Commandos at some point.

    @TerryMcC:
    Cool! Added King of Darkness. I love the Centaur Heroes and wish they had been published longer there all so...Golden. Have you checked out  Fletcher
    Hank's Stardust or Fantomah?

    Yet to read any of their stories but I have a  lot of Harvey Ga stuff to get through. Funny how so many of these are "Mystery-Men" and not full on superheroes.

    Popeye goes into the public domain in the next few years I believe, it'd be interesting to do something with him when that happens

    How exactly does a comic book character become public domain?

    Because I know a lot of those Fawcett and Charlton characters have been used recently.

    I think that if it weren't for the current Green Arrow book that something really cool could be done with Robin Hood

    I am no copyright lawyer but it has to do with pre-1994 Trademark and copyright laws for intellectual properties, The owner of any characters had to file yearly to retain their properties. Some of these were never properly handled to begin with like the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, and others have just fallen into the public domain through death of the Owner/Creator/Publisher. The Fawcett, MLJ, and Charlton characters are tricky as only CERTAIN VERSIONS of them are in the actual Public Domain, usually the defunct company's version, though there are many on this list who have NEVER been revived and have not seen print since the 40's or 50's. ANY versions of these Characters currently in print (with the exception of reprints) are the property of their respective publishers.

    I hear you. I don't see why Green Arrow should stop anyone from creating kick-ass Robin Hood stuff though.

    I think Undercover Girl would be a good character. She was supposedly a super spy type character. You might have to change the name, though.

    @turoksonofstone:  the reason I say "if weren't for the current Green Arrow book" is because there are just to many similarities right now...Green Arrow is currently living in the White Forest helping those of Star City by stealing from big companies and giving it to the poor of the city...heck he's even getting his own group of Merry Men
