Betsy Braddock
Character » Betsy Braddock appears in 4601 issues.
British beauty Elizabeth Braddock is older twin sister of Captain Britain a mutant, former fashion model, and Charter Pilot. She is a long-standing member of the X-Men, Leader of Excalibur, and Founder of the reformed Captain Britain Corps, multi-versal alternate versions of herself.
Why Doesn't She Fly??
She hasnt really used telepathy all that much, it s kind of confusing. But after the Sisterhood deal, she's supposed to have her telepathy back, just not at its full power. She uses her Psi-blades, after all. I guess they don't really need her to be a powerful telepath, since they have Emma. And her Cuckoos.
You can read Uncanny X-Men 508 for when Psylocke comes back, but it doesn't go into detail about her telepathy. In the next issue, Maddie turns her into an evil possessed Betsy. ;)
" @Gene_Pool : ok you seem to know alot about psylock can you please tell me when did she get her telepathy back i've searched everywhere and couldnt find the first comic issue she started using her telapthy agian i really want read it "Her telepathy is her mutant ability. That's what she had years before she became asian. Recently in Uncanny aftter the whole half body swap she was given some telepathy back.
Psylocke is referring to when she remembers a past life as a charter pilot

" @pixelized: You are in luck in the advanced review of Psylocke 1 it mentions she refernces her life as a charter pilot and love for flying

worst line in the review:
So . . . how is the actual story, you ask? Pretty darn good, actually. But what else should we expect for writer Chris Yost? He’s one of those rare comic writers who “get it.” Much like Geoff Johns, or Matt Fraction, Yost is able to tell compelling, exciting stories that both respect and celebrate the past while also making these concepts current and new.
I think its because they want her to a more prominent fighter than a flyer. And as many people have said, she does infact fly, just not that often. Like she is all ninja, and really, flying isn't very ninja-like.
I'm more pissed off that they give her a solid, physical katana and not utilize the fact she can create a more powerful telekinetic one.
" Well i think if anyone had the oppurtunity to fly they would. "Exactly. Even if someone had a fear of heights they'd still take the opportunity to sly a little, even if it was only a couple of feet off the floor.
" @Chosen One: What is the significance of that red marking on Psylocke's left eye? "It's a side effect of the Crimson Dawn.
" @Vance Astro said:But that would kill her whole Ninja thing." She's a Ninja..what's the point of flying? "her character loves doing it. It'd be like Willy Wonka not eating chocolate. "
" @pixelized said:She's still the girl that loves fast cars and flying, being ninja is so secondary." @Vance Astro said:But that would kill her whole Ninja thing. "" She's a Ninja..what's the point of flying? "her character loves doing it. It'd be like Willy Wonka not eating chocolate. "

What is the Crimson Dawn. It deals with SHadow King? ANd how did she beat him?
I think a flying ninja would be quite different in marvel. Betsy could incorporate the flying into her martial arts and be a super ninja.
Her ninja training may be great & all but it isn't her mutant ability.
Storm has some very deep training in hand to hand combat as well but you don't see her running into melee at every opportunity.
I realize that she has uttered the "I am an action junkie" line back in the 90s, but she's always loved flying as well. Both before & after the body swapping.
After her rebirth as well, she has been shown flying on many occasions!
I do wish she would be shown at least using it if the situation ever called for it.
Or perhaps, you would think the character, Betsy herself, after coming back from death being killed in hand-to-hand combat, might try using her powers more than using her fighting skills.
But I suppose that type of character development never happens anymore, as a ninja sells more than a telekinetic who happens to have ninja training.
In X-Force #26 she was shown using her TK to block gunfire & then float X-23 up into the sky onto a plane, much like Colossus's & Wolverine's special move they tend to do!
& you are so right on about her costume! Girl needs a change!!
Also, someone mentioned she is carrying around real metal katana's, & you're right ! She has been using these since she regained her telepathy. She can still summon the katana you know! A much more powerful weapon, as well as one that an opponent can't turn against her.. Very silly! One of the reasons why I'm not reading it anymore for the time being ~
I remember she flew in M Day. When her and Rachel were with Nocturne, Nocturne possessed Rachel and flew trying to escape and Psylocke chased her down, does that even count?
yea that was odd though cause in one panel she was being held by angel and then the next she was flying. maybe its just greg land.
i never misunderstood it, but after reading that i guess they did confirm that she was flying. good for you greg land, you didnt f-up.
as for how i feel about this; yea its cool she's flying but i hope its not something she'll do often. i want her flight to have to be limited, like she can only do it if she really focuses all her power into one bout of movement.
yea they are seemingly leaning towards her not flying, trying to make her less like jean i guess or any other telepath/telekinetic who can fly. but whatevs, i like her not being able to fly in the superman sense, but still being able to fly if she really needed to. did you read that blog post referenced above? someone commented and said that they asked carey and they he confirmed that she was flying though.
@ragdollpurps: This is exactly what I was thinking. She's a god damned ninja, she doesn't need to fly, she is the wind.
@pixelized: i wish the writers would have her using her TK more period, not just flying, she does use it but not a lot, her most commonly used powers r her telepathy & the psychic knife, tome this is gettin old cuz with TK u have so much potential to do a lot of things...yes i'm aware that she can't use both her TK & her telepathy at the same time, an yes im aware that her TK isn't as finely tuned as Jean's or even Hellion's, BUT they should def have her using her TK more, I also believe that writers don't want to use her flying so much b/c they feel as though that might take away from what Psylocke "does", shes known as the psychic ninja & part of the psychic ninja's "moves" isn't using TK too much or flying, but i'd like to see her use it more
